It could be your dvd drive giving out. My first 360 in 2008 started recognizing everything as dvds, then failed completely. It could just be the game disc though.

I have a brand new xbox 360 slim though. I'd like to think that that isnt the reason.

It might be the disc then. I had one perfectly conditioned Ninja gaiden 2 disc, and it appeared as a dvd whenever I tried to play it. I just bought another copy, and it worked fine. Try taking the game back and exchanging it.

This happened to me as well but with random games. I just ejected it and pushed it back in and it recognized it as a game

Alan Wake is the only game that would randomly read as a DVD for me.

eject and then put it back in, and it'd correct itself everytime it happened to me.

If you have a new 360 then it sounds like your disc may be defective. Take it back and get another copy.

That happens from time to time with my Box, I just eject the tray and then close it and it works. It's happened to me on almost every Xbox I've owned and with like 10 different games (all of which were brand new).

Probably the disk. Last time that happened to me, my xbox disk reader went bad.
