haha i have the same exact problem and cannot figure it out for the life of me. i can contest shots all day long and it always seems like 95% of the time they all go in. i just pray that the cpu or the person im playing will miss which does not seem to happen very oftenRaging-Cashew
Okay... I'm guessing it's just how the game was made. Ugh.
i hate 2k9 no deffense its arcade game i think nba live have better gameplay CTR360
I'm not sure I'd go that far... 2K9 delivers a much more realistic simulation than Live, but I still wish they worked on the defensive gameplay a little more. NBA Live is fun, but is no where near as realistic as 2K9.
Playing defense in NBA 2k9 is unforgiving if you don't stay on your man or play the defenses perfectly. If you're playing man to man defense, the second you stop covering your man the computer will run a play to score. If you play 2-3 zone the computer shoots threes on you. The more you play the better you get. I've been playing with all-star difficulty and it took me almost 8 games for me to win one.
But if you want, you could always just turn the computer's sliders down a lot so it misses all its shots. Odds are you're not playing the defenses correctly.
here's what to do to handle the oh so insane defense on nba 2k9.
1. First of make sure you played enough of 1 on 1 and play against somebody challenging like kobe or lebron. Don't you dare stop playing them until you beat them on pro. Granted I did it on my first try but you have to refuse to give up because it can be discouraging when kobe or lebron can't miss or keeps making you autographed signed posters
2. Use your lock down defense only when necessary. You dont actually need to press that button unless a player is closing into the key.
3. Be smart but please contest every shot. The Blocking system in this game is amazing. Its much more on point than it has been in a long time. Know the shooters and don't ever give them a chance to take an open shot. Even fadaway jumpers are easy money to block now.
4. Here's something thats very complicated, because of picks. Your defense will fall apart usually by a set pick because the computer gets confused of whom their supposed to guard so when you see a pick occurring you have two choices. -Either immediately switch to another player and hit the lock down D button on the player with the ball OR swtich to the player who is guarding the guy who set the pick (preferred) and let the computer reset the picked player to the ball handler because either their gonna go for an open shot or get it into the big man. You either risk a low percentage 3 or a high percentage 2 inside.
5. PUNISH STAR PLAYERS. DONT LET KOBE, LEBRON, P.PIERCE Etc. BREATH. IF they get on a roll, your in trouble but keep them on the outside if you can and swat them on the inside/outside no matter what.
6. Play LONGER Quarters. I used to play 6 then 7 and then 8 but to really have realistic game, post 2k7, I found you need at least 9mins . The problem with shorter quarters is there's not really enough time to get back in the game due to nasty clutch factors. I recently played east vs. west and I can name countless times that I was down by ten or more points. the highest lead I had in the game was a "Tie." But because I had a enough time in the quarters not only was I able to come back but in the 4th quarter we were able to close it out and win by 5.
7. Harras everybody but when they go inside let the computer guard in the post. The cpu has a better chance of swating correctly than you do because they know better and may not foul as bad. Plus they can cause enough contact to mess up the shot. YOU should remain on the point guard or a player close by and if they back down your cpu player in the post, try to go in and snatch the ball. If you choose to get backed down, its easier to get reach in steals especially if its a missmatch but act quick or its an easy bucket.
8. Always make sure your lock on D is on. Watch that icon and make sure you see the red spot comes on when you need to hit the button.
9. If you move the shot stick up on Defence it can obstruct their shot a little. ITs good if you want to avoid fouling a three point shooter to avoid falling for a pumpfake.
10. Guard the guards the majority of the time especially the point guard. If he can't set up a play it forces the offense to do hail marys. Also watch the point guard and as he comes up, try to switch to players he may want to pass to and try to hit the steal button in those passing lanes. Also if you harras stars without the ball, it also forces the offense run hail mary plays. Otherswise, just don't give up or else the offense will punish you. Some times its not matter how bad your defense is. Keep your offense at grade A+ or else you might as well start the game over.
one last. Don't be ashamed to play on "rookie" just until you're ready to move up again.
NBA 2k9 is made for a more aracde type of style if you want defense get NBA Live 09 it's more realisitc and therfore a lot more defense. I play on All-Pro and play great defnse usually hold the cpu at or under 42% shooting. If your like me and hate NBA Live 09 and want defense in 2k9 start some trades look for defensive awareness than you will start playing defense.
