I am just looking for people's suggestions on which game to get.

Some history: I was a huge NBA Live fan back when 2004 came out, but in 2006 I got Live 07 and was really dissapointed by the gameplay. I actually went and got NBA 2K7 and I think it is an amazing game. I really like the 2K series now, but I tried the demo for last years games and was dissapointed by both. This year I want to upgrade but am not sure which series is going to be better. I know Live has the graphics, but it seems last time at least 2K had the better gameplay...

When it comes to Basketball 2K Sports work really shines. NBA 2K9 will as usual beat out EA is all areas to which revolve around Hoops & Gaming. Just be glad we still get this, College Hoops we might never see you again.

NBA Live has been going down hill the last 9 years imo. The 2k series for basketball is always much more realistic and the better games.

I cant wait for 2k9!

2K9 by a landslide. And a hurricane. Blizzard. Earthquake. Typhoon and whatever other natural disaster you please.

NBA 2k. Theres something about live that ruins it for me. Its unrealistic especially the movement of the player. They run like a bunch of crippled old guys.

Nba 2K9. Why? More realistic, good looking, downloadable rosters, smooth gameplay, and more fun.

I have never played the Live series (have it on good authority that I should keep it that way). We all know how EA work (or don't).

I played 2K8 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fully intend to purchase 2K9.

The NBA 2K series has dominated Live for several years now, and I can only see that trend continuing this year, unless EA takes the initiative to do a massive overhaul of their game.

The only thing I don't like about 2k is that they release maybe 2 roster updates a year. When comparing that to Madden (which seems to update weekly) it's not a whole lot. That said, I don't even think Live has roster updates so 2k all the way.

Wow...I knew the more hardcore gamers preferred the 2K series but I am surprised just how lopsided it is....is it just the casual gamers that buy live then? Either way, I think I'll try both demos before I buy but most likely I am going 2K9...thanks!

so I tried the nba live 09 demo, the gfx of course are great, DNA 24/7 or whatever sounds pretty awesome....but the gameplay was still weak. You can't really play defense, the controls feel sluggish, and it doesn't feel like the ball actually exists in play...people can't tip it on rebounds or passes...its just either this person gets it or another....

I'll most likely be sticking with the 2K series...but I was really disappointed by the nba 2k8 demo...hopefully 2k9 is better otherwise I am sticking with 2K7!

Same here tried the NBA Live demo and I have to admit it's getting better but they still have a ways to go. I can't place my finger on it but something is just not right with NBA Live even thou they have a ton of gr8 features and awesome graphics. The ball physics and some of their animations are still throwing the game off. Another thing that throws the game off is all the cut-scenes that happen during the game. The cam is constantly switching from the game floor to player cut-scenes but it's done very poorly so it's just looks like things are popping up on the screen at will. Different angles for tip offs? Sounds cool but again once you gain control of the tip the cam has to switch to another view. EA stop switching cam angles so much dang!

I believe 2k is gonna have an answer for the DNA 24/7 thing and even if it doesn't it will still be a much better and smoother experience than NBA Live. Oh yeah the free throw mechanic in Live is dumb as h*ll!
