I just bought the game and I was looking for a good remake of the old arcade classic. It turns out the game is just horrible. I bought this game for $30 at Kmart, but I bought NBA 2k11 for $30 recently too. No doubt that 2k11 is MUCH more worth the money. I feel ripped off.

I'll be playing NBA 2k11 much more then this junk

Yes, it looks terrible from the gameplay videos and trailers that I've seen. Nothing but a gimmick.

well what did you expect? Its an obvious attempt by EA to feed off peoples nostalgia. You also have to take into account that it was never meant to be a full price release and you can see what went wrong.

Let's see they both cost $30 and both NBA basketball games for the 360 system. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out....

To all others: I really expected the game to be a bit more like NBA Jam. This is nothing like how I remember it. I loved NBA Jam in the arcade but this is hardly anything like it. Also, I was expecting to be able to play the game online. If they didn't release it at $50 it would have been much more enjoyable. Anyway, I bought the game for $30 but I'll be selling it for as much as I can ASAP. I'll try to give more details. Any thing in particular you want to know?

Also, I recently bought Donkey Kong which was partly because of nostalgia but the game is 1000% as awesome as it was 15 years ago.

They are extremely different sort of play styles. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Also I think you are riding on the fogged wings of nostalgia a little to highly, the new version is almost to similar to the original as far as gameplay goes.

I know they're extremely different game play styles, I own both. Also, I know that NBA 2k11 offers a whole bunch of more features and makes it much more worth the money. This NBA Jam game doesn't even compare to 2k11. It's a $20 XBLA game at best.

Let me add my main problems with this game:

Cheap! Not worth the money. Old 2 v 2 game doesn't work in today's market. Maybe the game is a lot like the old NBA Jam but that might be the biggest problem with it.

You choose to play with 2 players but yet you can only control one guy. There's a reason why NBA Jam was replaced with NBA Hangtime. Not being able to control both players is incredibly lame.

Playing games are pretty pointless and all you do is go back and forth trying to Jam on each other. There is no seperation between players, shot fakes are impossible. and so hitting 3's is nearly impossible.

My big problem is only controlling one player. I don't see how that is there for nostalgia purposes because who would even realize that?

The price is a big problem, EA couldn't even compete with their old NBA Live so they tried to do some NBA Jam and pricing it $10 below other games. Garbage in every sense/ The game does not any add any additional features and it's like an arcade port to the 360. Add something or do something, not just some lame game modes that I think were in other versions anyway.

If all of that doesn't indicate what a crap game with such little content it is. I installed the game to my 360 and you know how much space it took? It took up 1.3 GB of space. NBA 2k11 takes 6.7 and I've never seen another game even near below 4 GB. The thing is an arcade game. Comparable to the 5 on 5 Hockey game that is on Arcade for $5. I just wish there was a thread like this before I bought it, I would've at least thought twice.

1.3 GB what a joke.

Yes, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that they're completely different games that can't be compared, that's why I'm wondering why you did

NBA Jam is an arcade basketball game that features cartoonish 2 on 2 matches with over the top actions

NBA 2K11 is the definitive simulation of basketball with full NBA rosters, the draft, and D leagues

The idea that you can compare them is wrong, the only thing in common they have is that they both feature a basketball. You might as well compare Forza to Tetris because there's blocks in each game.

NBA Jam is meant as an easy pick up and play game for short spurts while NBA 2K11 is designed to be a game that you can sink hours into at a time

You say you can't compare them and then you compare them? I see the comparison in these games being about value not the actual play style - in other words, NBA Jam is not worth the price, but I think most of us knew that. I still might pick it up when it hits the bargain bin.

Apparently you don't understand. These games are comparable. If you think EA wasn't trying at least a little bit to compete with 2k11 then you're lying to yourself. The truth is that the game is hardly comparable because of how drastically different it is and how cheap it.is. I heard about added features and this and that but there isn't anything in here. Like I said, the game installed is 1.3 GB compared to NBA 2k11 6.7GB. There are plenty of comparisons that can be used, but it is no surprise to see that 2k basketball takes another dump all over the EA basketball game. The price tag isn't justified at all and everyone should know that. I heard about added features but this game is the same old junk.

You're right I don't understand. EA wasn't trying to compete with 2k11 with NBA Jam. Originally it was going to be included in NBA Elite, which was going to compete with 2K11 directly. And they figured throwing in an even more stripped down version of the Wii game into Elite would help sell it. From what I've read, Elite was atrocious so EA just scrapped it and took NBA Jam out and tried to sell it for $50 - preying on people's nostalgia. And like I said, it looks fun for a bargain bin game or like you've said an xbla game.

AND I don't understand, because you too say "These games are comparable" and then a couple sentences later you say "the game is hardly comparable". Make up your mind.

NBA Jam wasn't supposed to compete with 2k11. If it had it would have been an actual full game, not a bonus feature in another game (Elite). I don't want to be mean, but the only time I ever heard about NBA Jam (over the internet) I heard how it was being removed from Elite, because it was being scrapped, and then given a high price tag. Everywhere I heard about it they said it was going to be over priced. Because somehow a "Bonus" feature of Elite cost $50 out of the original $60 of both Elite and NBA Jam. That should have been a major indicator it was going to be overpriced.

And yes while the games are comparable I want to make mention that in your first post you compared game styles, not features. Comparing game styles among completely different games is usually not recommended, I am not saying you can't do it, but it needs some thought to work. Because your seriously complained about an Arcade basketball game apparently not being Arcade enough and then you said a Simulation basketball game was better... how does that make sense? Take for example comparing Forza 3 to Burger King Pocket Bike Racers. I do understand that you did eventually go into comparing the amount of features. That is probably what you should have started off with so you didn't get so much flack.

well a truely awesome game isnt ruined because it doest have online features. and a truely awful game cant be redeemed by having online 4player..... i think you were overreacting a bit.

and fyi, i wont get the game for $30 even, since I know it was supposed to be included for FREE with Elite 11 (which was scrapped). I have NBA jam for my genesis, and thats fine for now. if they release NBA Jam on XBL then i might think about getting it for a reasonable price.

Well, NBA Jam was going to be packed in with Elite, but Elite blew nuts so it got scrapped. You'd rather pay $60 for that junk game to get NBA Jam? I bought NBA 2k11 for $30 and bought NBA Jam for $30, so that's the same deal but I got the much superior 2k11 instead of Elite, I don't see the problem here.

It's unfair to compare NBA JAM to NBA 2K11 (a complete basketball experience) even if it's the same price.

It's not unless you like fewer features
