my friend has live 08, and i have 2k8.
2k8 is significantly better although th emargin is smaller than previous years. one downside with the game is that it DOES NOT teach you how to play the game properly and the manual is utter **** if you don't like 2k8 at first, it's probably because of this. read some online faqs then you'll have a blast
2k8 easily, its not even close.
If you like a realistic game if basketball, not to fast pace but not to slow. 2k8 has heaps of signature moves and brilliant animations makes it feel like you are really playing a basketball game. One thing I like about 2k8, is that anybody can hit a shot if they are open. If you get any player on the court open (Except Shaq) then they will hit the open jumpshot, it really is very realistic.
But if you like a more arcade type of gameplay, where everything is fast paced and you are just running up and down the court dunking on people with no strategy at all, then get NBA Live 08. But is that what you really want?
I strongly suggest to get NBA 2k8, best basketball game ever created.
really? i played 2k7 & i was very frustrated with players missing open shots, has it improved since then?, cause if so i might look into 2k82k8 easily, its not even close.

Here is a word of advice: The NBA Live series is easily one of the worst ever created. Not just terrible sports games, but terrible games overall.
Go with 2k.

i differ... even though i am a strong supporter of the 2k series i do admit that live was the pioneer of good bball vgames. not only good but it was the one that set the standar even though it wasn't able to elevate it further. live had a good run up until i'd say.. nba live 2000. the series really took a beating when it made the transition to the "next gen" consoles (ps2).

In this game you will never find yourself missing an open jumpshot, unless you time your realease wrong. They have fixed most of the problems, although layups are kind of annoying. Yes you do miss some easy layups now and then, and it is frustrating. But its not to bad, you do not miss easy layups on the fast break where you are wide open or anything. You will miss a few easy put backs with a defender next to you etc. so they arent really wide open layups.
Just to say again, jumpshots are perfect in this game. If you are open you will hit the shot no matter what player you use, just time the release and you will make the open shot 9/10 times, its really great.
If you are looking for a basketball game, trust me 2k8 is the way to go. I have played both and 2k8 is light years better, not to mention it has a better online community and good roster updates every month.
