does the fact that players are not named in this game effect the overall feel and gameplay of the game?

not really...then again you can always manually add names

Nah. I still can indentify some players, and use their real names when I talk about a play in the game.

If you have a $15 transfer kit, then you can get all the names imported for all of your teams for free from psxsports.com or other sites. I have them loaded right now and absolutely love it meaning this is a non issue.
