Oh there is a difference, I went from a 19" SDTV to a 32" HDTV in 720p and it was a BIG difference for most games, at least that's how I see it
Theres a huge difference, man, trust me. The detail AND colours are 10x better, truly. In fact, at times it may even make you play better as the detail is just that great. ( to get precise shots, headshots etc.)Believe me it just looks much more real on an HDTV. Gears on a normal TV seems like unholy blasphemy to me after playing on my HDTV !! Trust me man, having a HDTV really boosts the experience, even if you dont have hot-dogs.

and I'm just talking about 720p...

Im not gonna get to heavy in this as some see hdtv for gaming as not needed. What I will say is this. I had a 32 inch standard def tv (regular tv). I thought Gears, Kameo, PGR3 and R6V looked absolutely amazing. Graphics were just jaw dropping. I recently purchased a 40 inch lcd Samsung hdtv. Plugged the componet cables into the reciever, flipped the switch to hd and powered her up. I CAN NEVER GO BACK TO GAMING THATS NOT ON AN HDTV.
Trust me bro there is a big difference fromSDtv to HDtv. You have to see to believe.

Take a moment while I silence my gun!!!

True on the gaming difficulty aspect. I was stuck on COD2 veteran but then got a VGA cable for my PC monitor. I had been playing on a 16:9 26" TV but switched to my monitor (5:4 17"@ 1280x1024) and the game was suddenly so much easier lol. Strange. Since then I got a 19" Widescreen monitor for christmas and today i'm getting a 22" Widescreen monitor. Eagerly awaiting courier *waits*
[QUOTE="makaelthosolcry"]800*600 ? More like 640*480 dude, SDTV is 480i. (and 480p ?)pbkick1
I know but most newer monitors don't go to 640*480. I was just trying to give him something to base his research on.
How about 640x480 to 1920x1020 (1080P). That is more like it ;)

This is the biggest piece of bull**** I've ever heard.  I own a HDTV, and play on it, but no, the difference is not THAT huge.  People seem to think it is because they are going from a like, 25 inch TV to a 40 inch something, and in that case, the difference is mainly from the increase in the TV's size. Â
There is a difference, and it's noticible, but it's not night and day, nor is it "10x better" or going to increase your skills
in the game. IF you don't have a HDTV, and you're considering dropping about a grand on one, forget it, it's not worth
it, the change is not that big.  Pfft, like black and white to color?  Bull ****.  Take into consideration though, most people
here are kids, and didn't actually buy the HDTV themselves.  So yea, difference, but buying an HDTV isn't gonna suddenly
blow your mind away, unless you get like, a 60 inch, 4k TV.  If you're just talking a 32 inch and lower?  It's not worth it,
especially if you have a fine SDTV.Â
what?! are you serious? im running gears on a 37" westinghouse 1080P via VGA with z-5500 logitech THX 5.1. Mind you my friends own a game testing company and have play console games for a living... the first thing they said walking in was OMGFG at GRAW II.... This setup even makes my 720P set with component looks like awful.
If your are playing xbox 360 on a SDTV, you might as well just own a Wii because the texture and art style of a game like twilight princess fit in 480i better then the complex high def graphics of the 360. Hi def gaming is the only reason to even own a 360... if not the original xbox would have been fine.
That TV size theory is retarted. Gears on a projection SDTV (70+") looks awful... Id rather play on a 19" 720P set.

lol, oh yea, I know you're a child.  If graphics were the only reason to own a HDTV, then the 360 would be a piece of ****,
and my money would have been better spent on a PC, which had better graphics then the 360, 6 months before it came out.
But that's just me, I thought it was everything else that was improved in games that made it worth it.  And westinghouse?
Ewww.  And lol are the whole "my friends play games for a living thing" sure.  My cousin is testing Halo 4 as we SPEAK!!!Â

What reasons are there for owning an HDTV for gaming, other than graphics?

Scary... I played and got rid of Gears before I got my HDTV, but I was impressed at the difference of College Hoops 2K7 on SDTV and HDTV(over a year ago). I can imagine what Gears looks like on HiDef... I might just have to go rent it since they refuse to drop the price down to $29.99 or somethin'... but i agree once you go HiDef... there's nothing left!!!
straight up huge difference in quality but gives no advantage to players, if your thinking of buying one weigh the pros and cons,
it looks better for gaming but if you dont have a HDconverter for your television it looks like **** i have an HDTV but i only use it for gaming and dvd sincei dont have a HDbox. its fun i got a 30in for a christmas present but i wouldnt blow your bank on it.
this is like asking if theres a difference between guys and girls . lol there a huge difference. i used to have a 20 inch sd sony. now ive got a 37 inch vizio. im never goingh backag3ntz3rox0x
Word bond on that Vizio 37"... at first I was going to grab the 31" but once I got in the store and saw the 37" sitting right next to it I had to drop the extra $200 for that one... Vizio is an affordable, good quality HDTV.
On your computer monitor switch the res to 800*600. Then switch it to 1280*1024. Notice a difference? pbkick1
i like what he said
People her saying there is no difference what so ever are dumb, period. There is a difference but not that huge, people here saying playing 360 on an SDTV is useless are dumb too becuase once again, theres not much big of a difference. So the verdict is that if you can afford it without ending up with financial problems then go for it but if not then its ok if you dont, there is no obligatiuon that a game must only be played in HD or its useless.
and "SymphonicWave",your probably just another arrogant 12 year old who thinks he knows too much because the points you put forward make no sense :)
