Samsung is high up on the list because the picture is clear, amazing, price is reasonable, and you van can get a fairly big one. Other good brands would be Panasonic (I have a good one in my kitchen), and Pioneer(not as good picture, but nice price, in my bedroom). Pioneers are cheap, but the pictures are as good as the other two mentioned IN MY OPINION. Panasonics are fairly expensive but that one has the best quality of the three I have.

I don't have my 360 connected to this one, but I have the Samsun LN-S4096D upstairs. Its a really good LCD TV in my opinion.

I got it through bestbuyplasma...great deal. I should mention that you don't really get as good a deal as they list on that site (list prices are ridiculously high), but you should save a couple hundred over Best Buy or Crutchfield, etc.

If you want to get an hdtv with 1080p resolution the set itself needs to be big. Anything under 40" you wouldn't really see the difference between that and 720p. I've heard 50"+ for 1080p but I'd say 45"+ even thats pushing it though

Agreed. 1080p is certainly not necessary on a screen of 40 or 42in like the OP wants, but it could be a situation like mine where space constraints limit screen size...and you still want a really nice screen.  A lot of the newer models on the top end lines are coming with 1080p these days even at the 40 or 42in sizes.

Hey Evil, I own a 52" LCD 1080p HDtv and I enjoy it... but if you are going to buy it for alot of gaming.... go with 720, It's works alot better with refresh rates and looks better because games are more about looking good while on the move.

1080p is more for HD or Blu Ray Movies.

Samsung and Sony are the same Samsung is cheaper though. That'd be my choice. But 1080p isn't really noticable until you get up to 50 or above. DLP is a lot cheaper and you can get a bigger screen.

Well if all you want is a reliable brand and a TV with the jacks you need and able to reach 1080p/i ,im not sure which you wanted. But if thats what you are after i would say Viewsonic, they used to make the best computer monitors so they are a trustable brand.

Yeah, the Sony Bravia XBRs are the head of the pack and Samsungs definitely the best bang for the buck for the higher end models but look into Vizios.  While not exactly on the same level of Sony and Samsung, you will most likely feel comfortable with the purchase as it will not leave your wallet with an echo.  Their new 47 LCD is a full 1080p.  Anyway, stick with LCD technology at least.
