No problemo. Let us know how it turns out (everything works accordingly), because I've never heard of anyone using the format function. That warning at the website makes me a little apprehensive...
Just to let you know when you format something you lose a lot of things you wish you didn't. The last I tried it on was my PSP and all the game saves and settings were put back to the defaults.
