Here's the situation: I'm looking to buy ONE game next week, and I'm not sure what to get. Now, I don't have XBox Live anymore and I don't plan on getting it. But, I do have 2 roommates who both dig XBox. So, I want the game that has the best single player campaign but also has solid versus play. I don't know much about BioShock, and to be honest I don't expect Halo 3 will be THAT much better than Halo 2. So I'm torn. Help.

I'd get Halo 3. Although I think Bioshock is/will be the Game Of The Year, Halo 3 will better suit you. It'll have split-screen vs and possibly even co-op (as far as I know), so you can play with friends in your dorm room.

Well, the campaigns for the first to Halo games made me want to...nevermind. In short, BioShock has a really great story and some interesting gameplay, although it isn't quite the game we were promised, and is overall one of the best games I've played lately. Halo 3 is gonna be a must for you if you liked the last two, especially if you felt a little let down by the way the second ended. Even more so because you want the multiplayer; for more than one person, Halo is definitely the way to go.

Halo 3 will have multiplayer (not just through xbox live) so you'll probably enjoy that more. As for which will win the GOTY.

Fan opinion: Halo 3 (no question there, just see the pre-oders)

proffesional Opinion: Mass Effect.

well bioshock wins single player hands down (but it has no multiplayer whatsoever). Halo 3 will have incredible multiplayer and mediocre single player. i would say bioshock just because its so incredible but eventually i would get both if i were you.

Need to... You have OCD?

If you have 2 roomates that enjoy playing Xbox then it is obviously the right decision to buy Halo 3 since Bioshock offers no multiplayer features. IMO, I would buy Halo 3, and rent Bioshock.

Bioshock is a GREAT game, but after you finish it a few times...there's not much more to do in it...

Buy Halo 3. Rent Bioshock.

Get Halo 3 you will not regret it. Bioshock is not a bad game since I heard its short. It's an open game sort of but it isn't the best choice out of the two games you listed. You should really get Halo 3.
