I have an odd problem...

For the last month or so, whenever I turn my Xbox on for the first time, it doesn't turn on properly. My TV will continue to say 'no signal' being received even though the power light is lit. It doesn't matter whether I turn it on via the power button, open the disc tray, or via a controller (in this case, the 4 green buttons on the controller continue to flash until I turn off the Xbox).

All I have to do is turn it off and then turn it straight back on to get it to start up. But that's more than a little weird...

Do you mean you have to turn it off twice?

Because if you do it means your standby downloading settings have been enabled so you might want to switch it to disabled.

Or it could just be your TV not receiving the signals.

I have the exact same problem, i have to turn the console on twice before anything comes up on the screen and yes i even have the 4 flashing green lights on the controller too.

My current machine is my second after havin sent my first console in for repair, this never happened with my old console only the new/replacement/swap machine i have now. Its very annoyin cos i cant turn the machine on anymore with the controller i have to get up and fiddle with it first then play my game.

If anyone has any insight on this annoyin problem i'd love to hear bout it.

Both of my 360s have had to be turned on more than once most of the time. I think it needs to "warm up" for some reason, because if I've recently played games it only needs to be turned on once. It works perfectly otherwise, though.

Any more news on this? I have the EXACT same problem, have to power on the 360 TWICE before the TV receives a signal.

My tv is a Samsung LCD, which someone mentioned earlier in this thread, so maybe it's not the Xbox's fault (but I doubt it).

This behavior is true whether I use component cables or hdmi.

I have the exact same problem also. I also doubt it's the tv, because, if it was, the controller would still show up as controller 1, and nothing would come up on the tv. However, when the controller doesn't connect, it seems obvious that it's the xbox's fault. I am also on my second unit.

I have this problem also, started doing it about a month ago. It happens with any TV I plug it into and it only occurs after the xbox has been sitting for a while. I've noticed periods as short as 4 hours in between playing where it will occur. Sometimes after shutting down and after turning it on there are lots of quiet pops and creaks. Really weird stuff, I'm hoping for the 3 rings or something so I can return it for a new one.

I have the same problem. I bought new Xbox 360 last november and have been having this problem since day 1. I'm not sure if it will get worse but once it's up it's working great. I'm afraid to send it for warranty in fear of getting an older system or getting a worse system then the one I currently have (heard bad stories about replacements ;-P ). I tried different power supply, different cabling, different TVs so the only thing left is the console itself. Has anyone found a solution yet other than sending it for warranty? :-)

This is exactly the same as my 360. If I turn it off then back on it starts fine and I've had no problems in games. I've tried starting with or without a game or setting it to go straight to the dashboard but it makes no difference. It's sometimes ok if I only leave it off for a couple of hours. Same starting from the controller too.

When it doesn't boot the fans seem to be running but not as loud as a normal boot and the green quadrants do not do the pattern.

Mine was bought the end of November 07 but was a Christmas present so hasn't had much gameplay and it's usually only on for a couple of hours at a time.

I think I'll stick with it for now as I've heard people have sent them back and had worse ones sent back or had to wait weeks and I've still got quite a lot of warranty left.

Be good to hear if anyone finds out what's happening.

I have the same problem, I have to turn it on, wait for it not to come up, then turn it off and then on again. I now turn it on and off with the media remote so I don't have to get up to go turn it off since the controller cannot turn it off when it is spacing out.

I bought mine in October 07, it is a white HDMI unit. I know of people who bought their 360's long ago who don't have this problem, so it could be a problem with the newer units (with HDMI).

Does anybody have a non-HDMI unit and have this problem?

I have this problem with my pre HDMI premium. Nothing to do with the tv as it happened with my 19" PC Monitor too. On average it may take up to for times to successfully start up.

Hey, guys. I have the same problem and I've been poking around the net trying to find a solution other than sending it back for repairs/replacement. I do know what the problem is, however. It's a faulty video card. Microsoft knows of the problem but it's not widely advertised. I heard about it through a friend of mine who works for Microsoft Canada, I don't know the scope and the range of what consoles are affected. I only know that mine (Manufactured December 3rd, 2007) is one of them and also that I'd rather do my own dental surgery with rusty tools than send my console back for repairs.

What I'm wondering is will the XBox run permanently with a faulty video card? Or does anyone think this will cause damage to the system? Because if turning it off and on a few times in order to get it to work is the only thing I have to do...well...so be it. I just don't want to try it one day and find it doesn't come up at all.

I have the same problem. Mine is on the 360 Slim 250GB, bought 9/1/11.

I have guessed maybe something to do with being too cold, since it started doing it when it was really cold in my basement.

You realize this thread was made in 2008 and there is a rule against bumping old threads. Solution: Read all the comments 1st, and if that doesn't help then you can create a new topic about it and not bump an old one.
