Never been on Live... what do i need to start?

I dont enjoy playing games with random people, but i do want to get updates for certain games and be able to buy some of the amazing games you can get online.

What do i need in order to do that? I guess the Wifi adaptor or whatever and what... a credit card? Do i have to buy an account too?

Correction ::::::: You do not need GOLD MEMBERSHIP to download automatic updates, but you will need the Silver Membership which is free and available upon connecting your console to a high speed connection.

Ok thanks for that. I really do want to get some games from the Live marketplace though... can anyone confirm if you need a certain account for that? And i assume you must pay by credit card.Witchsight

If you are using a Profile rather than a gamertag, make sure you read up on converting your profile into a gamertag. If you just create a gamertag you will not take any of your achievements, gamerscore, or game saves with you.

To get online all you need is an ethernet cable to reach your modem/router/PC

Game updates are free (silver account), and I think you can buy XBLA games since those cost MS points. But to play online against other people you need Gold

just get silver for now sounds like.

you get a free gold trial, play online a bit, you may or may not be hooked.
