Yea I know what you mean I did that with Gears of War and Bioshock and to me both games suck, but then games like Kane and Lynch: Dead Men and Army of Two I thought were great games.

I've learned two things buying games without checking reviews is never a good idea and buying games despite bad reviews typically ends horribly as well regardless of how many "hidden gems" are out there.

Hmmm interesting to know but just goes to show that everyone is different. And that the best judge of what you should buy, is you!

The last game I bought without reading reviews was Star Wars Rebellion, and that was almost ten years ago. Never pay over $20 for a game you don't know a lot about.

I used to buy games blindly back in the NES days and so on... and for the most part I enjoyed them all. What can I say, I liked everything. When I got to my N64 days I started just renting every week. I rented a lot of games and some of them blindly and I found certain games to be horrible. Never really bought a game blindly, always checked it out online first. For the most part, I like all the games I've bought.

I'm usually able to get a good sense of which games I will enjoy just by looking at the reviews on this site. There have been a few times where I went against my intuition because of a game's popularity and each time I found out that I was always right to start with. For example, after reading about Fallout 3 I didn't think I would really like it but I went ahead and bought it because everyone else said it was awesome. I don't think I've ever played a more boring game in my life (which is exactly what I thought it'd be like). Luckily Target gave me a full cash refund, now I know to always trust my intuition :D

Everyone makes atleast one mistake, but then you learn and always check for reviews first. Even that doesn't mean you won't make another mistake, just reduce the chance. There are always those games that you just don't believe the review and think it will be better than they are telling you :) I played the demo of Two Worlds and thought it was awful and a game I would never get, but then just last week I saw it on sale for 2.50 in Gamestation and bought it anyway. I suppose it has to be better than paying 40 quid for it :P

I wouldnt approve of buying games regularly with out reading about them. But I think it's somthing gamers should try doing if they happen to have some extra cash to burn. After all, it's not very fun to go into every game know exactly what to expect from it. And one of the best feeling a gamer can have is an unexpected and pleasant surprise.

Dont feal bad man.It happend to me with Ememy Territories:Quake Wars. Its was total piece of crap for the Xbox 360. My dad spent freaking $60 on crap when I could have gotten like Army of Two[which no1 plays anymore] or Devil May Cry4 cause ive beaten like all of then except for this 1.

Yeah Gears's storyboard is great but online play isnt way to compare to single player. Online play needs alot of improvements. But yeah GoW 1 was good

Everyone has a story list this. The game i regret getting without checking out a review before hand was NFL streets. I figured hey, i enjoy the nba version of streets so how bad could this one be. Well as it turns out, the game was a complete waste. good thing i had a hook up so i wasnt forced to pay full price but it was a very important lesson learned.

I've never had a problem with buying games blindly. I typically research them quite a bit. Unfortunately, though, that doesn't pan out sometimes either. I ended up buying Oblivion after hearing "OMGOMGOMGOMG YOU GOTTA BUY." Needless to say I lost some money buying trash that everyone else thought smelt like roses.

I stopped buying games blindly when I was about 13 years old. That's when I started reading gaming magazines and became more educated in what's good and what isn't.

I actually only buy blindly, or at least as blind as can be. I find that the less you look at a preview and find out about a game, the more fun it is when you buy it.

Looking at your gamercard, you really didn't give either of them a fair chance, you have no Bioshock achievements, which means you didn't even beat the opening level, and only 2 Gears achievements. You didn't even finish Act 1 bud.

Well, maybe i should rephrase that. I will blindly buy a game that is apart of a proven franchise. I bought Gears 2 knowing nothing more than the obvious, new guns, new maps. I was blown away by the single player, horde and all the new executions . When I got Halo 3, I knew everything about it, so I wasn't amazed at forge or any of the new weapons. As for unproven games, if it has gotten a lot of praise and it is long, I will buy it. Thats what im going to do with Fallout 3.

Games based on movies are almost always terrible. The copyrights are their most powerfull weapon, leaving the game itself shallow or broken. If you thought Narnia was gonna be half as good as GoW before reading anything about it then that shows how inexperienced (game-related) you are.

personally for me gameplays are the most important. i will not even be satisfied with trailers. And im too lazy to go to the store to rent the game. But after getting halo3 i learned not to be a follower since everyone got that game. I returned it a week after i got it. I wouldve returned it the next day but didnt have time. I played the story mode and i couldnt believe how overhyped the game really was. and btw i buy games based on storylines and graphics, not multiplayer which i think is too simple to make and not a lot of effort is required to make it, and i don't enjoy playing multiplayer as much singleplayer anyway. Id rather get a game with both like gow2. but its really mind boggling for me see how people like halo3. but w/e.

I loved Too HUman also man, the coop with a friend is great.  But then again i wasnt anticipating the game at all in the first place, so it ended up surprising me with how fun it was. I love Diablo style games and Too Human was enjoyable to me aswell.
