I just bought my 360 elite last night and finally got around to messing with it. Right off the bat there are two things that are really bothering me, and I hope I'm just being stupid, because there two things my ps3 does with great ease.

Connect the system to the internet via a wireless router.

(I looked everywhere and can't seem to find this option. There is no way to scan for a signal. If there is no way to do this, I cant explain how mad I'll be)

Transfer Save Data

(three weeks before I got mine, a friend got his. I had bought two games and played them both for 10+ hours. I threw a USB flash drive in his system and tried copying the data to no avail. This is a simple task and its really getting me mad that it wont work)

Like I said, please tell me Im doing something wrong. I am NOT starting both of my games over, and I will NOT buy 360 memory cards just to swap data when I have 5 jump drives laying around. And also I wanna see what Xbox live is about, so an internet connection would help immensely.

Thanks!!!

i think you need a cable to transfer data and the xbox doesnt have wifi built in. you have to buy an adaptor.

Now please believe me when I say Im not on a particular console's side, but that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Because if thats the case, my 360 becomes useless for 2 weeks until I get paid again.

I had alot of fun playing games on it so far, but it terms of being easy to do common things that I need to do often it actually sucks.

Wow, Im pretty pissed.

if you want to be able to copy save game data from ur friend's xbox to ur's you would need a memory card, i think they come in 516mb cards...could be wrong as i dont really do that. the 360 doesn't have wifi built in so you would have to buy an adaptor as the previous poster mentioned.

hope this helps. this post seems to have a LOT of potential for trolling, so I hope you find the help you need before we get a console battle.

once you get things all settled out its a really good concile. i think it has better games so far then the ps3. and its way cheeper.

why dont you just use a direct connection to the internet intill you can get the wirless adaptor?

Lets not even go there. No one's trolling, so nip that business in the bud.

I am a lover of all things video game related, and also a consumer. I just shelled out 430 bucks so I could play all the cool 360 games not available for the ps3.

I still like the/my 360, but a few staggering design choices are tainting my joy.

No Wifi? I don't care how hardcore of a 360 fan you are, thats insane. the Wii has wifi.

No support for USB storage devices? Madness, sheer and utter madness. Now I have to pay more for all these extra devices to do essential things like bring my save data to a friends house and connect to the internet.

I beg that no one turns this into a system vs system thing. I don't care if you love your 360 with all your heart, im not saying im returning it. Im just reasonably upset its missing features I never would have guessed it would not come with

Um...deal with it? Why not play games instead of use it as a media center?

That's the bad thing about all of these add-ons for game consoles. They're no longer game consoles. They are just media centers.

The problem I have is that I rely on wireless. There's no cable in my room, everything I own is linked to the wireless routers around the house. I dont even have the option to direct connect.

Who said anything about a media center? Dont put words in my mouth. I could care less about media at the moment.

I want to play games ONLINE with my friends. I want to resume the games Ive been palying for three weeks already. GAMES.

Pardon my attitude, but you dont just waltz in here and say things like that, especially that dont pertain to my topic.

oh ok. well. there is an adapter you plug into the usb drive on the xbox 360 and it makes it so you can use wifi. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelessnetadapter/default.htm

but its $100. you can always get somthing else that works too.

and i dont know how it works i never had to use it but this is what i found on data transfering.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/datamigration.htm

also if you not going to try to help why do you post anything?

Not to be a jackass or anything, but needlessly defending something up against logical and calmly presentedcriticisms is making me wary of this entire forum. Im not bashing anything, Im expressing my dismay in a fairly delicate way.

The fact that people are coming out of the wood work to label as a troll because I had some questions is unsettling.

This is the last time I will say this. Im an adult, not a sniveling fan boy. Im positive I will enjoy years of gaming on this console, calm down. I've played the system before, I was confident I wanted one. Its not a crime to have a complaint, let alone a reasonable one.

If you have no intention of making suggestions, just dont post please. I would appreciate it.

And thanks, ManKelly, who is the only one so far who even attempted helping me out.

Theres a few things u can do first for the wifi if u have the 360 near a computer u can actually jsut plug it into your computer and bridge th eports to recive internet acces. Personally i have a cheap usb wirless reciver so i just plug my 360 into my computer and bridge both the connections in the network places and viola no need for shelling out $100 bucks for thier wirless adapter. As for the memory card issue not much u can do. Just look around online or find a friend who has one and buy thiers. Not many need for them so lots of people buy the arcade and end up just sellgn the memory card for cheap.

Excuse me for being obtuse, but if you really mean that, then you need some help. How about play some games OFFLINE.

Again, maybe I took your post too literally, but you did say it was useless, so I take that as though you really cant play anything on it..

Special Ed:

I was not being entirely literal. The thing is I wont have a dime to spend on gaming for two weeks. I have two games, and I already have played them both on my friends 360 over the last few weeks. I have no desire to start them over since they're rpgs. So until I can buy memory cards, I dont really want to play my games.

I suppose there's not much I can do. Perhaps borrow some games I haven't played yet until next pay check. I get payed biweekly which sucks.

all this information was available to you long before you made a purchase... you are mad because you didn't do any research ahead of time, simple as that.

Well, sorry for geting puffy with you, but I think you just misread some posts here too much.

Anyway, I am in the same boat with you. I really cant spend 100 bucks for a wireless adaptor for the system, so I will have to wait and get one for some time(prob till the end of the year unless I break down and piss my wife off for getting one...:)

But some will post some really silly stuff, just have to ignore them.

Please let's keep the discussion civil and 360 related.

As for the wifi adaptor problem you're having, I was in the same boat last October when I bought my 360. It is helpful to do the research before you buy, but like you, I figured when they're building in so many extra features like the increased hdd space and the hdmi support right out of the box, why would they leave off something as basic as wifi?

I did wind up shelling out the extra $95 or so for the 360 optimized adapter. I don't know if it's the only way to go for the wireless on the console, but it's certainly a good way. My connection is very reliable, reasonably quick (as wifi goes), and requires very little setup. As someone who's had a lot of hassle trying to get wifi devices to work, it's really a relief to see that the 360 adapter works so well with so little fuss. If you have the extra cash to spend I recommend it. If you're in that boat where you need to figure something out in the meantime, it sounds like there have been some good ideas already suggested. :)

I can't help you with the data transfer problem, except to say good luck.

Not to be rude but why did you not investigate before you bought it? It is not like you can't google the specs and stuff.

if you need money that bad then sell your ps3 or some of the games you have for it. Tbh, the ps3 is terrible and i don't know what you like about it 'coz theres NOTHING to like about it. Bad games, bad community, clunky system...

Anyway, havn't you got any demo you can play on the xbox?

I don't like to see a question like this turn into an excuse to insult each other and become a mini-system war. I don't think it was the intent of the question, but it's definitely where the thread is headed.

I'm going to go ahead and end the discussion here. RainWest, I think you've gotten as much answer as we have available for your questions already.
