Hello everyone. I am purchasing a 360 at the end of the month and am pretty set on a Pro. I understand it's smart to look for the earliest manufacturing date considering past problems etc. I plan on heading to BestBuy to pick up the $300 system and am strongly considering paying an extra $40 for a 2 year deal that they offer as an insurance plan. If I have my details right, anything happens within the two years they will just exchange it out at the store. Sounds better than dealing with Microsoft. Any experience out there with this? Thank you all in advance for your time and consideration.

I will never understand why people are willing to throw away money for something that you are already covered for.... the next xbox will be out before your 3 year red ring warranty is up.

I got one at BB with the plan because my buddy got an Elite about a year ago and it RROD on him, but he had the BB service plan and he took it back and they swapped it out no questions asked, he did forget to swap the HDD out, so he was peeved about that, but at least he didn't have to wait 2 weeks or deal with Microsoft.

its a good idea. My wireless controller broke once, and i exchanged it at bestbuy for free witht the warrinty plan. I just saved $50 right there, by spending $40 on a warrinty plan from them. And im sure il be saving a lot more money as well.

Wrong, Xbox 720 is late 2012, not even confirmed yet so it could be later. Anyways you should get the plan, just incase a controller, hard drive, or faceplate breaks, also if you get RRoD. I got the plan, and it was great because I had to exchange my controller because the battery pack broke.

If you buy a new 360, you are already covered for 3 years by microsoft. and it's free. Don't waste your 40 hard earned dollars and get yourself 12 months of gold. (since it is 40 dollars now anyway). I have had my 360 for 3 years and I still haven't encountered any problems with it. But I also don't keep it in a really enclosed space nor do I use it constantly.

it's up to you if you want a plan (i never did) but just so you know, the 1st year your gonna have to deal with MS regardless and if a harddrive, controller or faceplate breaks then it's worth it otherwise you have a 3 year plan for RROD from MS for free (basically)

I am still on the fence about this... I never would have thought of picking up the extra two years considering I've been an avid 360 player for a couple of years now and have yet to run into any problems. Granted the machines weren't mine, they were my roommates at school, but still we played all the time and never had any problems...ever. So I'm abroad now and am returning soon and have been researching a purchase of my own now for awhile and all I keep hearing about is RROD and error problems with everyone's system. It's almost like it's inevitable, thus the two year plan consideration. I don't know if we were all just very lucky to never run into any problems with the three to four systems we frequented, but I don't want to deal with boxing up my system and sending it to MS when I can drive down the road and have it taken care of....I don't know. How big of a hassle is it to deal with MS with returns and repairs?

Its unnecessary for the Xbox 360. You have an extended 3 year warrenty already when you purchase the system. The only differance it would make is if you had a problem with the system you wouldn't have to ship it out, you could just walk in to a Best Buy store to exchange it.

Most Extended warrenties cover the exact same thing as the Microsoft 3 year warrenty.

Yes the System is known for having many hardware problems, however microsoft will cover the cost of shipping and the repair for the system if its under the warrenty. But, It will take 1-3 months before you can play the system again and sometime even longer. But it you want to spend $49.99 for an extended warrent best buy will make sure you walk out of there store with an xbox the same day you brought in a broken one.

1-3 MONTHS! absolutely not. I will definitely be getting the BestBuy deal I do not have the patience for that...I like Xbox Live way too much. Thanks everyone for their input I really appreciate it. Best of luck.

If you have a Costco store in your area get your Pro from them. The warranty is 3 years, only save your receipt and packaging. If something happens they will refund your money no questions asked and you can get a brand new one. It is the only store I buy my consoles from.

buy the warranty. it is a great deal because u can just switch out the 360 with a new one. u would not have to wait for microsoft to ship u a box and then wait another couple of weeks to get it back. i bought insurance from gamestop i got a new one. a year later it E74 on me.

my thoughts exactly... yeah it may be covered but Ill spend 40 bucks to be able to drive 2 miles to my best buy and switch it out for a new one if this one breaks down and continue playing that same day...ive heard daunting stories about people who have waited long lonely months while their system was being repaired.

Is it a PRP (Product Replacement Plan)? If so, then get it, no doubt about it. I've had the PRP for every system and it's fantastic. If your system screws up, then you take it in and get a brand spankin' new console on the spot. And you get to upgrade to the latest and greatest SKU, which is nice.

Extended warranties are for suckers. In most cases if you bought a faulty product it will die on you well before the standard warranty. And if there's a major issue, like the red ring of death, the company will issue a recall or something similar, free of charge to those that don't have extended warranty

Yeah but...1-3 months with MS, 1-3 hours with BestBuy. $40 for time like that? That's a good investment. I think Costco would be another way to go and I will look into that when I get back...anyone else have any experience with electronic/console purchases from costco?

I'll tell you what - I'm personally glad I paid for the BB warrenty - made sure it was a REPLACEMENT plan, not a SERVICE plan - SERVICE plan, they send out your unit and you wait - my REPLACEMENT plan allowed me to walk into BB the same day I for the E74 error and walked out that same day with a brand new one.

I play everyday, in fact I've got over 400 consecutive days of gaming (search my gamertag on 360voice.com to verify) - no idea what I would have done if I would ahve had to wait to send it out. So the $40 was well worth the money IMO

No Best Buy Warranty: You have to send it to MS, but it's free.

Best Buy Warranty: You can take it back to Best Buy and switch it, straight up. But you pay for it. Then they turn around, and get the free fix.

I'd say, don't get the Best Buy warranty. But if you think the price of the warranty is worth not having to wait for a new one from MS, then by all means, get it.

NOTE: The 1-3 months thing is complete BS. It's more like 1 month, TOPS!. The first time I sent in my 360, I called, box arrived the next day, I sent it out that same day, and I had my 360 back 6 DAYS later. So the entire process took 1 week. The second time, it took 3 weeks total, and that was over the holidays, so it's understandable.

Don't mislead the guy with this 1-3 months crap, getting him to spend more money than necessary.

Maybe if you're in Europe it takes a while, because I don't think there's an MS headquarters there. But I'm in Canada, Ontario to be more specific, and we have a headquarters about 2 hours from where I live.
