I wasn't expecting such a cinematic game from Ace Combat, as I never played or seen one before. But man, for a flying game I first chekced the trailer and watch it 3 times in a row, that's never happened. It looked like the Metal Gear Solid of flying games. If you don't want to bother with the demo then atleast check out the trailer as it's got a lot of cool stuff in it, including nicely done sceens with quality characters.
The demos visuals are stunning. Silky smooth framerate. Controls are very arcade so you don't have to worry about your plane falling out of the sky. Never encountered any blackouts or stalling. Tons of missles and huge amount of enemies. Kind of the like that first air fighter on the 360, which I hardly touched after trying the demo, just wan't fun. While I sat an hour through this demo having fun, even redoing 20 minutes because of pilot error.
When you fire a missle you can leave the button down to get a missle came view. Hold down target button to get the camera to follow target. A nice feature for SD tvs and general help, when you make a lock you see a thumbnail zoom of the target on the upper left, this helps quickly determine the direction the targets moving to know if the missle would be effective. Then you have a special weapon, in this case a missle setup that auto locks on several targets and works a bit better. Nice for taking out groups of bombers in one shot. Machine gun works mainly well when close, and usually gives you a hint when to fire.
On normal mode the game seemed pretty easy. I just usually throttled up when a missle lock on happens, but I don't know if there's something like flares. I only died from being wreckless than the enemies. If it was more difficult I'm not sure I'd care for that constant dog fight turning, trying to get behind them.
The stick and throttle controls would be very nice for this game.
