Halo 3 is a solid game. For people that have never owned the original Xbox and didnt spend their life on Halo and Halo 2 now is our time. Call of Duty is solid, but not nessary if you own Halo 3. GTA 4 another solid pick, but if you played GTA 3, Vice, and San Andreas again not nessary. I would wait for a new game like Gears of War 2 or Star Wars and for the time being purchase an used 360 favorite and spend half the price.

Halo 3 is great .. the people who are saying it isnt good are just plain haters. Ofcourse Call of Duty 4 is also pretty great.
Also Gears of War and BioShock are must owns for xbox 360 owners (IMO)... You could also go in for GTA 4...You could wait for Ninja Gaiden 2 if you're into action/hack and slash games.
It totally depends on what type of games you like...theres a sticky thread in the xbox 360 forum (page 1) that shows the best games in various genres. You should really look into that thread!

I would have said gears, but the muiltiplayer is broken. The host has such an advantage in gears of war that its not worth playing. However, in CoD4, there is hardly any lag whatsoever, and no host advantage.

If you're looking for a fun, different multiplayer, get the Orange Box. I really is worth the money bought new. there are several "games" in one, and Team Fortress is a lot of fun to play online.
