Reasons IMO I think the new Halo 3 "Beta" video just happened to be "leaked" onto the net.

  1. Video makes a timely appearance just as Bungie is being trashed for releasing "Alpha" footage with crap graphics, newly "leaked" video shows far better performance to appease haters.
  2. The video had nothing new in it, and showed very little of what new things there are.
  3. The map, c'mon, they didn't even release a video of a new map in action, just a re-make of a map everyone already knows.
  4. The video is a direct feed from a playing station. I doubt Bungie let's testers stroll in with portable hard drives, hook them up to the recording computer and then leave with them intact with the hopes that they won't leak the footage.
  5. The words "Beta Version" listed on the screen the entire time. Now I have never beta tested anything so I could be horribly wrong on this point buy why tell the testers it is the beta on the screen the entire time. This helps my point number 1, the video can be confirmed as beta material.
Anyone else think this could be the case?

People playing the beta aren't just official testers.

Many Microsoft employees have access to the beta through their personal Xbox 360s.

And the beta does say "beta" the entire time in everything else we've seen that's been liked (ie. Cell phone cameras)

Halo 3 has a bit to go in terms of the development phase before it is ready to hit store shelves, and I guess people can't really get the fact that as this game gets closer to completion, people will try to get their hands on every bit of footage on the game that they possibly can. Was the video leaked? Who knows. Does it show us anything new aside from the the fact that this "leaked" footage showed us a remake of a multiplayer map? Not really.

Publicity stunt for the win?

Yes.

Exactly, I give them credit for the move because look at the firestorm it created since Halo 3 news had died down with the release date of the beta given.

It's sad that no one on this forum gives Bungie credit for keeping us informed on the development of this game. You never hear anything about Killzone 2. I wonder why.

dang that really sucks to get killed like that... Anyway I am not seeing why leeking the footage was such a big deal, as soon as the demo comes out everyone is going to be playing it... I mean I watched like 3 min of it and was like, ok....

Actually it showed us something that was quite out of the ordinary. As it was a remake of Zanzibar, the sword is usually in that spot in the middle of the rotating blade. In one frame you can say a bright blue glowing bulb in the place where the sword should be. Fair enough it adds more questions but maybe something Bungie didnt want you to see just yet. Is this one of the maps we will be playing in the beta?

It was multiplayer mode videos anyway. Normally there is big difference in graphic between multiplayer and singleplayer mode.

Yeh Rainbow Six:Vegas for example. Also quite a few games do this even if it is a small difference just to minimize lag.

I think if Bungie had leaked the video on purpose to stop the bashing of the alpha version graphics then they would have atleast made it high rez. More likely it was just one of the testers already testing the Beta.

The graphics were being trashed ever since the first multiplayer footage was released.  Around november I think.
  2. The video had nothing new in it, and showed very little of what new things there are.  Itshowed the spiker, bubble shield, new sniper, new br, the UI, something called a power drainer, the new warthog, the new ghost, and the mongoose.
  3. The map, c'mon, they didn't even release a video of a new map in action, just a re-make of a map everyone already knows.  They remade a map and made it a lot different.  I kind of consider it a new map.
  4. The video is a direct feed from a playing station. I doubt Bungie let's testers stroll in with portable hard drives, hook them up to the recording computer and then leave with them intact with the hopes that they won't leak the footage.  They play on their own personal 360s, they don't play at bungie.
  5. The words "Beta Version" listed on the screen the entire time. Now I have never beta tested anything so I could be horribly wrong on this point buy why tell the testers it is the beta on the screen the entire time. This helps my point number 1, the video can be confirmed as beta material.   If you look at the newest vidoc, you will Alpha version during the gameplay of it.  It's just like that.
