Under $550 USD? It's gonna be hard to find one that will fill a whole living room... you'll probably have to get a smaller one.

if the tv says "hdtv" on it then yes it will play hd quality. there are different contrast/resolution rates for hdtvs. mines 720pi which is the lowest and its fine for my 360. 1080pi is the highest and best quality hd. but will cost much more. just look at bestbuy or walmart online.

A $700 Samsung 32" LCD HDTV 720p will do the trick. Although it may a bit over your budget. Personally, I would go with anything, 1080p. It's going to cost you more obviously, but you're going to get a lot more bang for your buck. Not only will you enjoy a better gaming experience but a better home theatre experience for HD and blu-ray movies as well. Tid bit: Not all video games take advantage of HD. So dont be surprised when you pop in Halo 3 and it looks all edgy. No HDTV can fix that problem, unforunately.

And another thing. When buying an HDMI cable for your Xbox 360 and HDTV, price doesnt matter unless the cord is longer than 6 feet. Dont be fooled by $100 Monster cables. Digital is digital. A $10 cable will perform just as well. But maybe not as long as the higher quality ones. Be careful of THICK cables. The weight of the cable will ruin the socket. www.monoprice.com sells cables for super cheap. You'll need one, if you want ultra sharp quality.

Thanks for the cable thing I didn't know that =]!

I have a small 19" Samsung HDTV in my room 1000:1 contrast....looks fine as its a small room and downstairs a 32" Samsung 3000:1 contrast and again perfect for the room. I live in the UK so we'll probably have different ranges over here but the best reviewed telly for us (and relatively cheap) is ANY Panasonic telly. They seem to be the most highly reviewed, whether they have the same models over in the US I'm not sure but that's what I'd go for. Why didn't I go for it? Because I got a staff discount on Samsung items thats why I don't have the Panasonic :)
