Gamertags are your ID used on Xbox Live, and they also track your achievements.

What are achievements? Just points. Not useful, no reason, just points.

You can watch movies on your 360, you can rip your audio CDs, then use the 360 as a standalone player, you can buy movies and TV shows from Xbox Live's Marketplace.
