New to Xbox Live... will I lose my acheivements? (from a Grrl Gamer)

ive had my xbox since fall 06, and my gamer score is finially getting respectable (for a girl i guess) , 4300. however, ive never signed up for or used xbox live, and am considering doing so..... however, my gamerprofile only exists on my memory card. someone said when i get on xbox live, it will wipe out my acheivements... is that true? how can i prevent it? really getting worried and emotional over this.. for a long time i didnt care about acheivements, but now that my score is getting so huge, it has me upset: /

No it won't. I said this in the other topic you made as well. I had about 10,000 gamerscore or more before I had anything to do with live. I had to change my name/gamertag as the one I was using was taken already and that was all I lost.LRP85

u should be fine, all it does is update ur account to gold. i went to silver account a couple of times because i don't pay by credit card,i pay by time card but all it does is lets me play on live. worst thing that can happen is that ur name is taken u need to change it.

well, i was up onmyself and thinking it was a good gamer score... till i mentioned my score on the mass effect board and was promptly told its a terrible gamerscore, and that i dont even qualify as a gamer, and that women are bad at games thats why my scores "so low".

it took me a while to get it that big, but i guess compared to alot of gamers it sucks

Gamerscore means nothing other than you have played said amount of games. That is all. Most of my friends on my friends list have around that same score.

well i just ordered a 20 gig hard drive and it arrived today. so if i can afford high speed interwebs and xbox live, i might try to sign up soon. however, if what one of you says is true (that if you have a non xbox live profile already in exisstance, when you sign up for live, you need a new name and all your acheivements from the non live profile cannot be transfered and are lost... then i might not bother)Usmael_Masuel_X

It is not true. You do not lose anything. If you have a name that is not taken you just get to use that name if you want. If you have a name that is taken you just have to change it.

He is wrong. I was not on live until just before Halo 3 came out and all I had to do was choose a different name. I still had all of the achievements.

No, all I have is a Memory Card and I can play. And don't worry about your GS, they will be fine.

Just connect online, and you might have to change your gamertag, but you'll be fine.

I find this funny. My account was not linked to the internet in any way. I did not go online and make one. I just went from the dashboard and joined live. I had to change my name and I still have all my gamerscore from before joining. You don't know what you are talking about.

just so we're clear.

You CAN retain your gamerscore when you sign up for Xbox Live.

First, make sure your profile name isn't already taken on Xbox Live. If so, change your offline profile to one that's unique. Once you've done that, then sign up for XBL with that profile name. You should be all set. I've done this, so I can attest to the fact that it does work.

The gamertag I did this for is RM4M

haha, it is pretty lonely actually :/ none of my friends play games anymore, and barely tolerate my interest in them. i always get this 'nerd!' vibe from them lol. however, i dont have the high speed interewebs... so no xbox live is possible for me . hopefully that will change soon though
