uh actually the TC is correct. With each major update the forums flare up with people complaining that it bricked their system. It's never happened to me or anyone I know, but there are always news reports about it. There just hasn't been a major update in a year, so maybe newer people don't know about the past history. I was actually wondering about this myself. I think a few will get bricked, but hey that's just my opinion and based on the past like the TC which is not always a predictor of the future.
It's the law of averages. There will be a few people that have problems. And those few people will be very very very vocal. Complainers always are. But for a vast majority, we'll just smile and go about our business.

This is why they are shutting down LIVE on Monday for 24 hours and will probably shut it down for another 24 when they release the update in November. The Xbox Live team is a bunch of professionals who are putting a lot of work, time and effort into this update, I doubt they are gonna let something as terrible as you speak of happen while updatin LIVE
The only thing I'm afraid of is when I recovered my gt on a brand new console with the new 60gb hdd, I don't think it did the first preparation update that we had a few weeks ago. It might have maybe but I didn't notice it the first time I turned on the console. Hope my new console that maybe didn't get the update we had a few weeks ago does not brick once the actual one comes. Don't know really if that small update we had really matters at all. Maybe the new 60gig console's already come with that one preparation update.
well since they are taking down live for 24 hours, then they must be taking it seriously bout this update. besides, we are paying them for the service so the update needs to go smoothly.
Hmmm well the update wouldn't finish downloading on my brother's xbox (would get to the end and would stop downloading and an error would come up), so we called ms to see what the problem is. They told us that his xbox was banned even though he was playing fine on it the day before the update and we've done no modifications to it whatsoever.
I figure it'll be a repeat of last year's update: nothing bad will happen, but people will cry and whine about the look of the new guide menu/dashboard, and go into hysterics about how it's going to destroy their televisions and/or eyesight. *cue facepalm* 3 year old topic... crap.
