I think that after all the stuff that happened that Microsoft should of had a light bulb go off in their heads and do something about it. Theres rumors I dont know if its set in stone but the rumor is that the Jasper will be in this one which makes it quiter and run cooler. So I'm hoping that this is true and that happens which will make the chance of RRoD go down.
Think of it this way, Microsoft are a company that does look at its profit more than it should. If it doesn't boad well for an income then it has to be fixed. Now imagine the fiasco with the Red Ring of Death that plagued so many 360 users and the expenditure costs to fix each 360 and send it back (For it to be only returned a few months later). This would eventually be seen as a problem that wouldn't just disappear overnight no, so the Elite was brought out for the high end of the market to solve this.
The problem with this was people who knew nothing of this problem before they themselves got an Arcade or Pro Xbox 360 and suffered the problem, were only casual gamers and didn't spend the extra money on the Elite meaning the problem didn't go away like they hoped. The answer to that? Fix the problem and save face.
With stiff competition from Nintendo and Sony the last thing Microsoft need is the Red Ring of Death being a mark on its game child, so the new Xbox with a 60GB hard drive is 1) A way of saying sorry, 2) An extra way of showing that Microsoft can adapt to a problem and keep with a demand of ever growing full 20BG hard drives. And finally to ensure this new investment to renew all that Microsoft have invested in this new baby of theirs, I would have to guess that the internal Hardware has been upgraded to try and kill the problem of Red Ring of Death and various other technical issues that Microsoft would otherwise end up paying for.
Money can't make the world go round, but dam it can certainly give one of the worlds most powerful companies a well needed wake up call.
