The first new change is free shipping for consoles in and out of warranty that are sent in for repair. Microsoft will send a postage paid box to return your console to the repair center.

Secondly, when Microsoft sends you back a repaired console it will come with a fresh one-year repair warranty.

No they started making you pay for shipping when they bumped it up to a year. Now its completely free.

I don't know. But MS seems to be very helpful. It may apply to all 360s in existence, but check the link for more info.

"Other warranty enhancements -- as witnessed here -- include faster repair service. Microsoft is committed to repairing and shipping your broken console within five business days. Microsoft is also adding more Xbox customer care representatives and is bulking up its on-site technical support facilities."

I think if they can do this more people would get the MS warranty for like two years like I did and it wouldn't be as bad like waiting a month which is insane to me. If they can do this in less then two weeks for most replacements or repairs then it would be a big step in the right direction to me. Or they could just fix the hardware so it doesn't break either way :p

This is a pretty good move. Hopefully it will ease some of the future customer's concerns. One year warranty should be fine fior any new console and an extension on any repair is a long over due idea

why are they doing this? Are they trying to cover up the fact that the 360 is has a high defective rate?

Well, you could think they are taking the high road and just doing this to make their customers happy, but I believe this is a PR move and/or a move to avoid litigation, but good for us either way. Just to add, you don't get the 1 year warranty on all repairs. If you are in warranty, you only get 90 days or the remainder of your warranty, whichever is longer. The 1 year warranty on repairs is only for those that paid to have their Xbox fixed.
