That is why I did not buy COD4. I only play SP so a game that is only 6 hours long is not worth $60 to me. The Orange Box is pretty awesome if you want a long SP experience.

I agree I liked the games when they were longer. Now they put so much into graphics etc, they forget to make a lasting single player.

As an older gamer I hate long games. I never got to finish Oblivion, I never got to finish Orange Box, I'll probably never finish Mass Effect - even though I enjoyed them all (ME gets my GOTY vote). I just don't have the time for games that long no matter how good they are.

Yeah, people throw out wild numbers all the time. Apparently, before the Halo 2 map pack all FPS shipped with 30+ multiplayer stages too.

Maybe if they are so easy you should start playing on the harder difficulties.

I can't beat most games on the extremely hard/very had difficulty settings (Resident Evil and Silent Hill being the exception) so I never complain about games being short.

Do that and then we will discuss...

See.. Dev's nowadays are trying to milk each one of their games for as much as possible now how will they do that? They will cut back on SP and work alot more towards MP which for some people might suck but personally, I can enjoy it. Gears might be 8Hrs but I've been playing it for about 8months, MP FTW.

And Assassins Creed is longer then ME IMO, but then again I beat both in a Week.

Ive bought AC, and Im enjoying it. Not always as much as in the beginning, but I calculate "fun" like this:

One visit to the cinema costs me 10 euro's. EDIT: For 1.5 hours.

One 8 hour game costs me 60 euro's.

So, thats still good right? Entertainment / per hour

That's funny, because your Gamertag says it took you closer to 3 weeks to finish Assassin's Creed.

You named some current-gen action-games that are too short (in your opinion). How about you name some last-gen action-games are longer? You suffer from the typical nostalgica effect. Everything was better back then, until you re-visit these games and find out: 1) They graphics are almost unbearable compared to todays games 2) They aren't any longer, some are even shorter than todays games 3) Your mind has been playing tricks on you. You only remember the good times.

If you feel that the games are too short then ... (ahem) ... PLAY ON A HARDER SETTING!!

Mass Effect is MASSIVE...

My first playthru took 46 hours. I did every sidequest / conversation and explored /surveyed every damn planet.

My second and third playthru's (mostly main quest only) took about 20 hours each.

I agree that alot of "next-gen" games are putting too much emphasis on graphics and ignoring length tho.

I don't think they are too short, not for me anyway, because I am pathetic at shooters and any general action/adventure game, I can only do sport.

But yes, they do seem to be getting shorter, maybe due to the fact the games are imrpoving and they are putting more effort into the game itself, despite the duration.

games are not short, i agree with you that shooters are generally shorter but the action in them is so intense you generally go wow that was so cool i must do that again so for example CoD4 is about 5 hours long but it is so intense you ant to do it again and the harder difficulty levels take much longer to complete and if you add on the hours spent on multi-player as-well you could easily get 100 hours out of CoD4 which is apparently a short game.

They are short so everyone can make it to the end. Games are usaully well paced, but a lot of idiots (not you of course) like to do speed runs and ignore all the aspects of the game, and complain when they are done and say that the game fails... I did Assassins Creed in 40 hours because I was finding every possible way to finish the game in the most effiecent matter possible and had tons of fun interacting with people in the world...Games can last longer if you are not just straight forward

Some games are too short but most of the time, companys get the right amount of time into a game. Sometimes, I don't have time to put down 100 into a game. I would much rather play a very strong 10-15 hour game and be happy.

If you played Assassin's Creed in 6-8 hours, you missed out on the entire game, wtg!

Mass Effect is over 40.

Darkness is pretty long for a shooter.

Can we drop the "Next Gen" moniker? The 360 has been out for more than 2 years and the PS3 and Wii more than one year. It's safe to say that this is now the "Current Gen."

lol. That is all that needs to be said. That game can be completed in one sitting of like 7 hours on hard setting. You must took longer because you were too busy finding out where to go because the level design in that game is sht.

But I'm not ragging on the darkness though. that game is tight

Not really..last gen games were the same length, just cheap in terms of difficulty and forced you to start over.

Alright alright, reguardless that wasn't the point I was trying to make. I was simply stating that becasue my Gamertag shows that i've been playing it for 3 weeks doesn't mean it has taken me 3 weeks to beat it. I bought it on retail and beat it 4 days later, no thanks to work, then I recently played through it again. You can chose to beleive what you want, choice is yours.

The fastest time AC has EVER been beaten by one of the internal beta-testers was 8 1/2 hours and he knew EXACTLY what to do, where to go and the knew all the short-cuts etc. Anybody who hasn't that kind of information and claims to have beaten it in 6-8 hours is simply lying or deluding himself. Even if you rush it and skip all cut-scenes etc. you still need at *least* 10 hours rushing through it. I've played it with all side-missions (except the flag-collecting) and it took me about 25 hours. Calling a story-driven game with 25 hours playtime "short" is, well, nothing short of stupid (pardon the pun).
