I'm playing on the ridiculous all-star level and I'm winning about 10% of the faceoffs. Any tips?

I haven't played the 360 version but I downloaded the PS3 demo on my PS3 and on the PS3 you just push the right stick over to the left if you want to pass the puck left, and the same if you want it to go right. It'll probaly be the same on the 360

When the referee puts the puck down, Push your right analog stick down (if you are facing upwards).

If you're facing downwards (maybe the 2nd player?) wait for the referee to put the puck down and press up on your right analog stick.

The manual should tell you how to use the controls.

Yes, I know what button to press. But why can't I win a single face-off online? Exactly when should I flick the stick?

QFT... the face offs are all timing.

Skill stick rules, by the way. I need to be picking up this game soon. I liked the demo quite a bit.

How is the full game btw?

I had 07 but didnt like the online that much, I felt the gamespeed default settings were way to slow.

Has this game improoved upon that?

Im also currious about the online play in regards to multiplayer on my console vs someone else...does it work well, im sure I could get 3 friends to come play online against another 4 if it is amazing

08 is much slower gameplay IMO, it's the same as the demo though. The game is at least 4x better than 07, if you played 07 a lot then you'll remember all the glitches and things that just make you mad cause they shouldn 't have happened. Right now the EA servers with NHL 08 are pretty bad though, I have no problem doing shootouts and versus play but no 'team versus' You can bring up to 3 friends online with you as well, it's so much harder winning a game playing with your friends lol, everyone has different skill levels and playing styles and when they're all together it's not necessarily good. My buddy and I are both pretty good at the game but when we play together online we rarely win unfortunately lol

Thanks for the info scarface.

It seemed honest and valid, I may pick it up.

I loved 07 for the offline...my friends and I would set up a tourny and drink the night away to see who came out on top.

Yeah definately try the demo, it's seems like a whole new game to me honestly...and a cool thing if your buds all pick it up as well is you can set up tournaments and leagues on XBL, though all being there and watching the agmes is always more fun when dirnks are involved lol

There's major improvements like the AI being smarter, and new skating and puck physics and then there's also small improvements like now there's actually board checks (and bench checks for that matter), graphics are updated, etc... Fighting still sucks but it's a little better because there's a bar kinda like a momentum bar for the fights, and a fight can be turned around by a well placed haymaker
