Pretty clear by playing the demo that this was going to be a superb game provided they didn't go the cheap route on the modes etc. Adding in actual AHL rosters and AHL playable teams sealed the deal that this was going to be a 9/10 or so game.
For the poster above who had trouble getting into it it was most likely the control scheme. Once you play with that control scheme for a 10 full games or so you'll never want to go back to the face buttons. Either that ir you prefer a more arcade feel which is not this game. EA has finally managed to make a sim. I think we'll see that they have surpassed the 2k series with this one. LAst year was pretty even though the control scheme in NHL 07 won the day for me. 2k is in serious need of an overhaul. It has played the exact same way for 6-7 years now.
I am waiting on the word for the NHL2K8 before i decide. I generally avoid all EA products.Videodoggi was 2k for the last few years, but it looks like EA is finally giving what we asked for, like online leagues & improved franchise/dynasty mode
2K8 has nothing on 08 this year....didn't you guys watch the preview videos??? It looks HORRIBLE! And doesn't anyone wonder why there's no demo...?
I'll be picking my copy of NHL08 tonight...CANNOT WAIT!!! Been playing the demo so much, im tired of being the Ducks (cant stand the Sens)
The demo was very hard for me to get into, but that's probably because I haven't played a hockey game in years..K4ss3r
Me either, but once I accidentally found out how awesome goals can look with the stick controls I'm absolutely sold. I've spent hours playing the demo because it's just so fun. My only worry about the game is getting used to going down (literally, skating down instead of up in reference to the camera). I haven't been able to get used to it yet.

I found the controsl to be annoying at first, but once i got used to them, i was like "WOW, how did we play without this?"
I had a ahrd time playing going down tho, as i wasnt sure if i had to flip the shot on my stick, and found it hard to adjust that way, but i am sure that we will be able to adjust the screen so we are always facing up as well. It was like that in early NHL Versions like '05 i think, but i havent played an EA NHL game, or even any hockey game in a freaking long time. This game, has my attention. and i have been calling all the stores in my little town looking for it.
I dont know if i should wait it out and buy halo 3 or just get nhl 08 tommorow or the next day. I mean im a hardcore nhl fan and i cry when my team loses in the play offs (Vancouver FTW) but i get smacked on pro settings...i mean i win what? 1/3 games i play on pro.
Is there just no hope for me to become good at the game? becuase i swear to god im trying my best but its impossible to score for me.
Ill wait for the review at gamespot
you will master going downwards...it just takes time. The only way to get used to the controls and working the whole rink is by playing the game, loosing a crap load....enjoying that time and getting used to all the little movements and loop holes.
everyone who has remotely enjoyed the demo should buy this title....it will keep you busy for months....if you're hesitant because of the controls, dont worry....it takes a good 10-15 games before things feel natural (as they do with me now since 07)
Those who have played 07 will see and feel the difference in 08 within seconds!!! I was so convinced that I was keeping 07 for another season that I didn't even consider buying a new hockey game until the demo came out.
Guys...I have been a supporter of 2k Hockey for years now (actually picked up NHL 07 when it dropped to $29.99 to try it out) and I can say without a doubt that this EA franchise is back!
Not so sure about NBA Live but with all the EA hating (most of it warranted) going around so much over the years I have to tip my hat to the folks at EA for FINALLY giving us what we want.

Previews make it seem like 2k8 will have a deeper Franchise mode, so I'll proably go for that. I'm waiting for a 2k8 review, though.Ellipson
Strange that we haven't seen a review or demo of 2k8. They usually put up a demo by now.
I dont normally play NHL games (the last I got was on the mega drive, some good times with that game) but decided I would try the demo on market place when I saw it (I was going to get the NBA demo but went with this for now) and I am really enjoying it. Its not like the other demos where I play once and then decide, I have kept playing it because its really fun (really hard to score though, can get some really good ones and then really poor misses). I am really liking this demo and might pick the full version up at a later date maybe.
Just a quick question, does shooting from shorter distance usaully work for others? The goal keeper person (goal deffender is it?) allways saves the shots so I am thinking I either need to practice or is it beacuse you should shoot from a further distance and get the pitch and power right instead?

It's all in the skill stick my friend. Learn the wrist shot for getting up close, it's huge in this game particularly in shoot outs! Move the puck around the zone. I love this game because you can get rebounds from shots, it's not one and done as in past hockey games.
The demo for both 08 and 2k8 both look very cool. Nothing beats the real thing though. The graphics are getting very life like which is very scary.fred334
2k8 demo is out???? Since when? I haven't checked since last night.
Im an NHL fan (games not the real deal) and i thought the new demo was a little lame and hard as hell!!! just shooting the puck was super frustrating! and the shoot off is dead hard!!!noambartouv
I agree, the game is not the real deal...it's ACTUALLY EXCITING! I'm an NHL fan (Islanders ~sigh~) and playing the game has been a lot more exciting then watching a game lately.
just keep at it man, once u learn how to toe drag & do other dekes u will notice it gets easier & easierI dont normally play NHL games (the last I got was on the mega drive, some good times with that game) but decided I would try the demo on market place when I saw it (I was going to get the NBA demo but went with this for now) and I am really enjoying it. What's up with these stupid release dates? I look on IGN and see 08 being released on the 11th so I go out, and am told that it's being released tomorrow. The same thing happened when I tried to get Metroid 3. If it's not going to be in stores on the 11th, they should say the 12th.
BTW, is there a way to dribble the puck between your legs like the little cut scene shows in the beginning of the demo? I haven't figured out how to do it yet. I hope the game comes with a detailed tutorial.

You have to hold the left bumper button and move the joystick (right or left - not too sure) in the desired direction. Theres a skill stick tutorial video on the marketplace.
Anyways, I'll be buying this game soon. Been a huge NHL fan and have stayed with EA for a long time, even during some questionable ones.
