New Features:

  • LB (L1 on PS3) lets you push the puck past a player, then skate around him and get it
  • Accuracy when shooting with skill stick depends on how straight you push forward (madden and/or tiger woods)
  • Overhauled skating engine/animations
  • Left Stick has more control...jam forward for burst, go slow by pushing lightly...jam right for hard cut, roll right for crossovers
  • Severity of hitting depends on speed and angle of hit
  • No lag online
  • Practice mode drills (one on ones, power play, penalty kill)
  • All star Skills Competition
  • 60 FPS, with same graphics as last year

I'm really excited for both games man. Judging by your gamertag and your avatar, you are as big of a hockey fan as I am. Be honest, you were severely depressed the day after game 5 of the finals, realizing that you'd have to wait 4 months for hockey again? I have high hopes for this year's two hockey games. NHL 07's skill stick was the bee's knees, but the rest of the game felt really rough and unpolished. I ended up favoring NHL 2k7, but I was definitely dissappointed in the lack of innovation. I just preferred it because you can do so much more, like actually play defense. Hopefully EA steps it up and capitalizes on the awesome skill stick with a quality game to surround it. I'm also anxious to see what the 2K series will do, as I don't see how they can not implement some sort of stick control to rival EA. Just an example of how competition is great for sports games.

agree with everything you said

08 looks to be the greatest hockey game ever. They took EVERYTHING bad about 07 and fixed it

I'm way more pumped for this game that I ever could be for Madden or any other sports game coming out this year. NHL '07 was great fun, and if they truly do improve some of the bad points of the game, we're in for a real treat!

sweetness, hockey is back

but i do hope things change in 08's gameplay, none of this 10 year old gameplay thats slower than my turtle.

as both the others posted, only good thing about 07 was the right toggle stick. hope these changes make the game better and in the league of 2k7, and lets hope 2k8 makes a better overall graphics haul and ups the competition as well

more competition in games the better games gamers get

Nhl 07 was the single worst game I have ever played..no defense at all , the AI was horrible..no player acted like a hockey player would and it was an arcade game. nhl 2k series is so much better although the graphics suck. nhl 08 will suck too

lol, you're just jealous cause if they had won the semi's, they would have won the cup. But any team that wins in less than 7 games is obviously better than the otherSubmit

Haha, nah man. You've got me trumped on that one. Although I'm a Flyers fan. I don't know what's worse, going from a playoff team to the worst team in the league by far, or losing in the Stanley Cup finals.

sound good, but im more excited for nhl 2k8, because 07 was terrible, the only fun thing to do was shootouts and they got boring quick. 2k7 was amazing. cant wait for both games.

not impressed with any of it! the controls in nhl 07 were a gimmick, the ai was worthless, the gameplay was terriable compared to 2k7. not to mention that certain aspects of the game were completely broken like defense and checking.factor in that it is an EA product and you get a rehashed piece of garbage.2k products have always been superior than EA games and i have no doubt that 2k8 will be better than nhl 08.

I share your pains in more ways than one. On a funny note, when Ottawa beat Buffalo this year the first thing I thought of was "Sweet Ottawa will be one of the playable teams in this years demos". Oh well, virtually I can take out my anger. I hope they add decapitations this year. I'd love to shorten Pronger several inches.

Looks nice, I sided with NHL 2K7 after playing both last year. I'll probably try both again this year, but buy 2K8 and rent NHL '08.

One of the biggest things I'm excited for is that skating is now pressure sensitive. One of my biggest problems with 07 was that you went 0-60 in no time flat and there wasn't any in between for skating, making D nearly impossible.
