Totally awsome. At begining, it was kind of a let down and frustrating by those projectile spamming. But later on, once I got those cool weapons and have more skills on taking down enemies, the game is awsome. The are some levels with awsome graphics but some are just uninspiring as well. I would say the game is not all that consistantly awsome as NG1, but still really good. Especially the new weapons kick a**.magicalclick
scythe and dual katanas FTW
Good: difficulty, weapons, melee combat, melee enemies Bad: camera, projectile combat, god damn projectile-firing enemies Indifferent: storyBane_v2
I hate the the rocket launcher enemies!
Everything about the game is awful, aside from the brutal combat. I don't mean to troll but the whole game feels rushed and old. If you liked the original don't expect to much of a change aside from a worse camera, and a bad framerate. Steven_Beynon

yea im totally suprised by how much hate ng2 has stirred up. thats what u get for trying to sell a niche game to everyone, they either cant get past the first three levels and curse it or find small reasons to nitpick and say dmc is better.
if u think the first one was better u are correct.
if u want the best action game of this gen then this is the game u wanna get.

Good: Combat is amazing, Sweet weapons, The gruesome kills never get old.
Bad: Camera, Difficulty, Short.
My biggest problem is the Difficulty. It starts off too easy. Near the end of Path of the Warrior is where it starts to get harder. But then it just suddenly hits you when you get to Mentor, it's not hard it's just unbelievably cheap.
It's definitely worth it, but if you don't see pushing yourself through the harder difficulties, I'd just rent it.
Well I have a PS3 and 360. Hands down NG Sigma kicks NG2's arse in the graphics department. NG2 just has better combos and ultimate attacks.kenken2g
I loved Black, but NG2 demolishes Sigma. My big complaint is that they didn't fix any of the weak points of previous games. It's like NG1.5, but if it's your first time playing NG then it wont matter.
If you actually like this type of game sure. I don't care for it too much though. I rented it and got about to the second level and quit. But hey, that's just my opinion, don't take it as fact.chaoz-king
Thats because the second level is not anywhere near the coolness of the later levels, like the castle, or the underground lair.

Really? To be honest at chapter 5 the skull boss, just before it when you kill the crawlers... my frame rate probably dropped to even below 15FPS. It was horrible. Never had such evil slow frame rate on any console game ever. Also, I found out because it was due to casting The Art of the Phoenix while fighting them. Aside from that one experience the frame rate dropped multiple times also when fighting allot of enemies and some who use projectiles. Probably to like below 25FPS. Not unplayable, but annoying.
To be honest, I wouldn't know why you wouldn't have had experienced this? It's the same game on the same system. Maybe your enemies are different or something. Or you just didn't see the frame drop.
Ive played the demo on xboxlive and I want to know if the game is good or not.ironbat25
I think it's somewhere in between. I don't think it sucks but the game's got some real problems with it, imo. The camera is every bit as bad as people say and gets so bad in a couple spots that it almost totally ruins certain encounters, and there's a few other issues as well. But for me the big thing you need to know about this game aside from the camera is the enemies are annoying as hell, and in my opinion the game's difficulty ventures into cheap shot territory way too much. How you handle that is going to go a long way in how much you like the game. I haven't handled it too well, and as a result I haven't always had fun with this game. Still, when the issues aren't getting in the way, it can be fun to play.

I didn't start to really notice it until Chapter 10, but it's there.

I'm on chapter 11 and the only slowdown i had was chapter 10 when in the stairwell fighting what seems liek 500 guys, and even then it was playable. I wonder if by some chance having an elite console has less of the slowdown or if that's just impossible, because i thought they were the same hardware specs...

No, I don't think that's possible. I'm replaying the game right now, just defeated Volf and I have to say that boss fight isn't very hard but the main thing that makes it at least challenging is not on time responsiveness due to slowdown.
Seriously, play the Volf boss again. You have to admit the game is much faster on other situations like oblidirations and fighting ninja's and what not. I've actually had a decent amount of slow down on the flying fortress as well just a few seconds ago. Not that it's that bad that it's unplayable. It was actually still above 40FPS most of the time. But in a game like this I'd just prefer as much frames as possible to make it smooth. It actually wouldn't have been a bad idea to make it 120FPS though I don't think that's even possible on a console.
It just really stood out how bad the frame rate was at the before mentioned skull boss (just before it) and Volf.

no ng fan wants a story, dont give me that excuse. if i want a story ill read a book. when i want to kill demons i know where to go!
incred_davis
thank you. I dont play vido games for a story. To bad action games like NG shouldnt be deducted points for not having an academy award worthy story. what good is a story if the gameplay is crappy. NG2 delivers gameplay
The game's actually is really fun, once you get the hang of it. The obliteration techniques look amazing and the new weapons(sythe and falcon's talons for example) are great to use. The only problems i've encountered are the camera angle and the annoying spamming of projectiles(shurikens+rockets are the worst) by enemies...oh and some of the bosses are pretty annoying the first time you play.

Yeah, I loaded a different profile and played through to that boss, and still no slow down, even with the crowd goign wild all around. Then I loaded back into my usual profile and i'm on chapter 12, and the graphics of the volcano level just looked so amazing, and even fighting two of those turtle beasts with all the lighting effects everywhere didn't have any slowdown... How are you able to tell how fast the actual frames are (as in how do you know it was 40fps) or are you guessing?
I'm really starting to think the elite consoels have some improvement or perhaps something even as basic as better fans, keeping the gpu cooler allowing for less frame rate drop, because i'm almost done the game and that stairwell was the only place I hit slowdown so far. Even then it was playable, just like half speed, so the effects looked even cooler. I have to say, the level where you go into the waterfall and the volcano level were just stunning. Opposite that underground worm tunnel where the graphics looked like one texture to rule them all!
good: brutal gameplay, cool weapons
bad: camera, story, frame rate chugs at times, enemies border on cheap (rocket launcher ninjas and that flame armadillo come to mind)
I loved the first one but im not enjoying this one nearly as much. Luckily i rented it though and should finish it before the time is up.
its a really fun game. i guess if u like having fun, u should get this game.
iono im like a ninja gaiden fanboy and i didnt really play the first one that much lol.
so far, i think it's better than the original, the reason why it got a lower score is because; it's very similar to the first one in design and combat,(some would also argue that the graphics aren't much better) plus it isn't the revolutionary game that the first one was... however, if you enjoyed the 1st one, or haven't even played any of them yet, chances are that you will enjoy this installment.a55a55inx
I agree. The problem is, it's so much like the first one that it got repetitive for me. The only thing that has me going are the cool weapons and dismembering mobs. It's fun for a while but it gets old pretty fast. Isnt that how it is with most hack and slash action games that stick to the same roots? That's just my honest opinion. I guess some people dont like change. I'd like some change to make it more interesting and fun, and a lot less repetitive. It would be like Assassin's Creed, which is already repetitive, to come out with Assassin's Creed 2 and have it do the same thing.
I really think NG2 is a really great game, and am shocked by the low scores that many critics have given it. Ok so an 8 is supposed to be a "great" game, but if Assassin's Creed rates in the 9s, well than NG2 should be around a 27. I understand the complaints that some people are making about its framerate drops, but they aren't very frequent, and really don't drag the experience down in any significant way - at least in my opinion. For me, NG2 has been an enjoyably fast paced, challenging, and exciting game, with battles always ending with the body parts and blood stains of my enemies strewn throughout the environment. If you liked the first, then NG2 will blow you away. If you didn't, then why would you expect a different experience? It is, after all, the sequel.DarthStoner420
Some people don't get games are reviewd by diffrent people. It's not "gamespot" or "ign" its an individual, and THEIR opinion. A game's score isn't relevant to other games, like lets say Halo got a 9 on a site, and Ninja Gaiden got a 6 on the same site. The games are compared to others in their own genre. So you can't say Mass Effect is better than Ninja Gaiden based on the fact the score is higher (even though it is better)
Go read my review in my blog, that'll give you more detail. BUT for a short answer, I thought the game was great ALL THE WAY through it. I'll be giving it a second play through on hard really soon.
It had extremely high expectations after Team Ninja did such an amazing job on the first, and I think that is where it let some people down. It wasn't revolutionary this time, just an addition to a great game. Play it for what it is and you'll enjoy it.
Ninja Gaiden 2 is an excellent game and is much better than it's predecessor. People just complain about the difficulty, although they give you auto-heal in this game and they are still complaining. It's not that difficult.Mcderby4agree! the games is the best and its very fun! its good! peace
