I have the 360 hooked up to the TV via HDMI. I am using the digital optical output from the TV to the receiver so I use my external speakers. I am getting audio on all of my TVs HDMI ports through my external speakers, but not when I try the xbox 360. Would anyone know why? I played with all the settings and can't seem to figure it out. Could it be the xbox is not HDMI 1.3? Do they plan on upgrading this?

Interesting. Would this prevent it from sending audio to the receiver if my TV has 1.3 HDMI inputs?

No, 1.3 hdmi is backwards compatible. The problem is that optical audio is purely digital audio, you would have to have an optical cable coming out of the xbox 360 for digital audio.

I am using the HDMI port, so it is entirely digital video and audio. I had a different TV and it worked fine. Plus, I'm getting audio from my DVD player so it leads me to believe the TV is fine.

I have digital optical going from the TVs output to the receivers input. The 360 is just plugged into my TV via HDMI like my DVD player and whatnot.

Thanks for the info, i didnt know 1.3 was backwards compatible.

no problem, you're just going to need another optical cable though. Not too bad, there only like $7-$10.

edit: do you have the elite? I dont think the premium has that audio adapter that comes with the elite. And ive heard that plugging in an hdmi cable blocks the component hookup from connecting.

HDMI output definitely has the digital audio information in it. It must be that your TV is unable to bridge the audio from the HDMI to the optical output.

Yep. I think your right. Its strange, because it works with my DVD player. Plus i've tried all of my HDMI ports and each work with the DVD player. Its just the 360 that is unable to bridge (also, on AVS forums, someone has the same problem with their ps3).

So, I'm using my HDMI, do I dare go back to component? Is there really even a signifcant difference?

Or, any other ideas as to why I may not be gettting audio?

depends on the tv, some tvs look much better with hdmi and others have minimal difference.
