Dead Space 2 will not be released this year. That's according to a release schedule included in EA's freshly released fiscal results.

The document has the Viseral title penned for a Q4 fiscal 2011 release, which runs from January 2011 to March 2011.

After some hoopla earlier in the year, the platforms are also clarified: console, handheld/mobile, and PC.

Other releases joining the title in the quarter will be a new Dragon Age (presumably Dragon Age 2), Epic's Bulletstorm, plus a new Need for Speed, Spore (Darkspore?) and a 'TBA fighting title'.

it sucks, but it's good that devs are taking their time, i don't want this game to be rushed.

I thought everyone knew this, but oh well. It would have been nice, but I am not surprised. I believe I read somewhere in Gameinformer magazine that it wont hit shelves until early next year.

Well Dead Space got spanked in Q4 2008, so EA is probably running scared with it, they also probably don't want it crushed by their own MoH. I probably wont get it anyway because I don't like the sound of it going action heavy nor do I like the moves EA is making.

Well, that's good news for me, since I have a massive enough backlog as it is.

i agree. ill give EA some leeway as theyve been giving a few devs some freedom, like visceral, though they still are greedy and malicious. i think this game, honestly, i wont know until i see it. after seeing the trailer and reading a preview on ign, i think it will come out alright. ive even come to understand a bit why they brought back isaac, even though he was supposed to be the "everyman" hero. however, i read about how they want to make it action heavy and compare it to mw2 (which is enough to make me vomit instantly) and then i get worried..... so yeah, not until i see it a bit more can i decide. until then, ive still got one more playthrough of dead space i want to do: epic tier 3 engineer.

Dead Space was a huge hit that EA has to keep at that high level or they risk losing the franchise

That means that the follow up needs to meet or exceed the critical and sales success of the first and allows them more outlets to run from the franchise

I'm ok with 2011 if they're able to pull it off

I'm not that concerned. Hopefully they are taking some time to reel back that "it's going to be more of an action game and less horror" and "the first game was too intense" shtick they were flinging around. I'm really hoping they saw that the internet response about the subject was filled with responses like my own, which was "what a brilliant idea - make the game more generic to appeal to a wider crowd and kill what made it exceptional in the first place." They are going to kill the franchise if they try to make it appeal to the ADD action shooter type crowd who are not going to like this series anyway.

Yeah... I thought that was the plan for a while now. I heard months ago it wouldn't release until early 2011.

That's cool. I'll be dedicating my gaming time to Reach this fall.

uh, yeah... thats the case with every sequel that is published. of course the devs and publishers want to meet or exceed the previous game. why wouldnt they? all you said was both what we already know and already agree upon (that 2011 is fine for various reasons)
