Wouldn't that be funny. People complained that the original xbox's life was cut too short, the 360 on the other hand people may complain it lasted too long.

Looking at what the others are offering they don't really need to rush to release something. The WiiU has been nothing but bad news so far and news that it will have games that are coming for the 360 and PS3 released for it a year later. The Vita is a handheld that looks close to what the PS3 can do, Microsoft doesn't even have handhelds.

I want a new console out as soon as possible though, once consoles are able to do anything near what current PCs can do we can start seeing much better games.

I just hope a new xbopx doesnt come out for atleast another 2 years... only had mine like a year

You buying one late doesn't mean that progress should suffer.

People at microsoft are saying that they are using Kinect to extend the life of it. Some say it could even last into 2014.

If we see a new console before 2013 I will be extremely disappointed. I feel like my Xbox 360 and PS3 have at least 2 more years left in them. Microsoft really needs to work hard in bringing more exclusive titles. This would really help extend the life of the Xbox. I love Gears and Halo, but you need more than that. I was excited for Ryse, the new game from Crytek. Until they announced that it will be a Kinect title.

My consoles have much more than 2 years on them, I shall play them in years to come if the next Xbox isn't backwards compatible.

I'm just mad at MS for only coming out with accessories. Rather than a Handheld or something, they release a freaking steering wheel and a headset? Laziness. If MS wants to keep up with everyone else in the next gen, they NEED a handheld. No exceptions.

I would like a new xbox, but I don't want it until it would be a substantial improvement to the last gen.

We seem to have the processing power needed to do all but very large multiplayer gaming. The improvements in gaming are now coming in story and quality of experience. So I see a new console as a blessing (faster processing is always useful in game design) and a curse (mainly the cost of the new console + game prices will probably go up).

Dead? Last time I checked, there was a huge market for handheld gaming. I don't see MS making one though. Like stated above, the already make tons of money from LIVE subscriptions. A handheld would probably be worse.

If Microsoft were going to release a new console any time soon ( in the next year or two ) Bethesda wouldn't be releasing Skyrim on the 360, they would surley wait to make their game better.

Also if they do make a new console, 360 games had better work on it. I have like 100+ games and to have to revert to an old console to play them would be rubbish.

So the last time you checked was 2005?

The king of handhelds had to cut their price almost 100 bucks per unit and cell phones have replaced the need for a single use device like that

Up until the 3DS, Nintendo had still been doing pretty well. Not amazing, but decent. I still think handheld games have a chance. Not to diverge into system wars, but the PS Vita is something I have to get. It's proof that we can still do stuff like that and it should show that handheld games can make a comeback. Possibly. If anything, handheld games at least appeal to hardcore games too.

... joke. Microsoft won't release new system because they release a slim? how much money dose it cost to move parts around install smaller parts? what takes the longest is to do all the coding for consoles. Just like you can build a pc in hr-2 But your not going get anywhere without the software. Then a new remote. Come on how long dose it take to program a remote? i'm no programmer but t.v remotes is one of the most simple tech we have around still. The steering wheel can be easy be made. All you do is design the wheel and assign functions to button. BOOM. Same goes for the headset. PLUS anything they can even port it over to next gen.

To be honest with you, I would be more than happy to not see a new Xbox 360 for even 5 years from now. Not only would it make it even more awesome when it finally arrives, but it would also mean that I don't have to spend a lot of money for a new console. I feel no need for a new console just yet, as there are still groundbreaking games coming out for the Xbox 360 at the moment. I feel that its' life will have been way too short if they decide on a new console so soon as it only came out in fall 2005 (I first got it for Christmas 2006).

Sony took a chance on making the PSP to compete with Nintendo and they barely have their head above water. The Vita might change that but Nintendo has a chokehold on the handheld market and that is why I think M$ is hesitant to make a direct handheld gaming system to compete. If anyone wanted a handheld they already have a DS or 3DS and maybe a PSP but M$ knows it's to late and would lose money to attempt to compete in the handhelds.

Besides evertime I go out in public I see people playing on a cell phone or Ipod. I can't remember the last time I saw a DS.

McSoft doesn't NEED a handheld; they practically own the PC market. A HUGE percentage of all PCs are running Windows, and the Xbox is outselling the PS3 if I'm correct. There's no need for them to try to push something else as far as handhelds go. Also, I hope they don't release a new console til late 2012 or 2013.

I seriously doubt we will get any sort of announcement until 2013. We were told that Kinect would extend the consoles life by 5 years, they would have planned for that to be the case and won't be rushing around just to get an incomplete console out two years early.

They will also need to wait for the fast revolution of TV's. If reports are true and Apple are in the process of making a HDTV to end all HDTV's then that will change the game completely. Rumours floating around are that the TV will be able to play games and have the iPad/iPhone as a controller. This is basically going to make it a WiiU inbuilt into a TV. Add an accessory that puts buttons on the outside and you have captured Nintendo's market if they get 3rd party game support.

An in-built Xbox or Playstation sounds ridiculous, but these new TV's that are trying to incorporate everything could soon be reality. It'll certaintly be interesting to see what evolves in the next 5 years,

The Xbox can't last another 3+ years. You can clearly see that games are starting to push it to its limit. I mean 3+ discs for some games? Time to get off DvD.

I would prefer if they let technology evolve a little more and then launch one last xbox. It would much cooler if they released the last console ever.

well since nintendo releasing their next gen console next year. microsoft/sony is kinda forced to push the date backwards for announcement for 2012 and release in 2013. Because If they wait Nintendo will gain MANY MANY sales and have a huge advantage if they continue to wait to long. Sony said once they don't think they need a new console but they need one to keep up with the competition

How would a t.v mess with a gameing console? Because Appple is making the ipads become the remote? Apple products is already over marked becuse their name. so no 4000 dollar t.v isn't going to sell quite good for the adavrge famaily when you have HDTVS with apps in them already for less then a grand speed extra grand get 3D abilty. look at that how much people have 3d t.vs right now. Then throw apple logo on it and slap a grand more on it.

Yea, then make a console that can be upgraded. I don't really like buying consoles over and over and over, and if my old ones break I have to buy others to replace them.

Considering Kinect was released just at Christmas 2010, and there are only few titles for it - you can bet that the Xbox will run into 2013/2014. Hardly groundbreaking news, everyone knew this generation was going to be long.

Haven't they already integrated some form of 3D into games? Wasn't Black Ops 3D? Either way I see no real use for it currently. 3D is getting in more and more but there isn't a huge market for it and most people are reluctant to switch out their HDTVs and LED TVs for something just for the novelty of wearing the glasses to watch a movie or 2. Plus you have to buy a Blu Ray player that includes the 3D capabilities, you have to buy Blu Rays that support 3D, and of course, the glasses which cost quite a bit from what I've heard. Technology does tend to become cheaper and cheaper though over the years so maybe in 4 to 5 years 3D will be cheap enough to integrate into every home. Until then though there's no real need for it other than the small niche that wants the novelty of having 3D gaming, but novelties wear off very quickly. If the next Xbox comes out in 3 years, they could always take a shot and include it, but I think it might just be a waste of time and energy to deal with it.
