Warning: I'm going off the assumption that Mirror's Edge is open world and that Silent Hill 5 is going to be in the style fo the last 4 (not including PSP version)
Well, right now Mirror's Edge is going to be competting with a million other open world games that are being made (they've really gone up in popularity, obviously, and I'm more interested in Infamous). And as for SIlent Hill 5, well to be blunt, it's not going too appeal to Microsoft's main beer-drinking fratboy demagraphic.

yeah QFE. uncalled for.
Mirror's edge looks interesting, but it's also new. I know me personally, I'm interested in the next chapter of gears, because it's just that. THE NEXT CHAPTER. that'd be like, if it was 1982 again and instead of seeing ROTJ you went and saw Annie. as for Silent Hill, I've never been into them, I was always a Resident Evil fan myself, and I cannot wait for RE5 in March.

Did that offend? then let me elaborate. Microsoft, like all gaming companies, like to get Hype going, which is why they have a marketing department. It's the department's job to find what type of game is going to appeal to what type of people. Halo 3 sold a lot, so they look at the type of crowd that plays Halo a lot, if not the most. Games like Halo and Gears of War appear to the fratboy market, as well as other markets. Generally they want to hype the games that appeal to the most markets, since if they hype too many games it can belittle hype all together.
Does this mean that only fratboys like Halo, Gears of War, or the 360? No, of course not, but it is still an unignorable market.
Why is everyone so hyped up on Gears 2 and Mercenaries 2 etc etc and not talking about 2 games that look incredible like Mirror and Silent hill homecoming ??? celebate
I'm very unsure of Mirrors edge because it can either be revolutionary or totally disappoint everyone. I'm not overhyping this game. Also The new silent hill game looks great i wanna buy it as soon as i get money. I've always enjoyed them and can't wait for a newer one.craigalan23indeed.

Offend? no? irritate? yeah, a little bit. I hate fratboys. you're also only bringing up 360 exclusives. MS might shoot themself in the foot if THEY PERSONALLY (as a compnay) hype up Mirrors Edge, since it's developed by DICE (EA) and thus, multisystem. Why spend your dollars to hype a game the other guy gets? they're letting DICE hype it. and so far, DICE hasn't hyped it.

Well where's the evidence? To my knowledge fratboys would rather be drinking and doing stuff that can get them hurt to impress girls. Not trying to "Pwn noobz on Halo 3 and GOW." Also doesn't Leisure suite larry appeal more to fratboys?
Kinda curious as to what article you read that showed the primary demographic for the xbox is fratboys cuz i'd be surprised to hear you made that assumption based on fact rather than you just talking out of your @ss
anyways, i hope mirror's edge is good. the videos look pretty cool, but I never reserve games that I don't know for sure will be good because they're just too damn expensive nowadays to toss $60+ at and then find out the game is only mediocre or maybe is great, but can be beaten in only a few hours (Bioshock is a good example of that. Was a fun game, but it was short and once you beat it that was kinda it so thank god I only rented it). I'll wait for reviews on games like mirrors and silent hill and decide from their whether to ignore, rent, or buy. Most gamers I assume, like me, cannot afford to buy every single game that comes out. Unless you spend half your paycheck on games which is kinda pathetic to me, but w/e

Mirror's edge isn't open world. One of the previews I read actually said that it was too linear. Despite that, I'm still looking forward to it. Not Silent Hill that much. Was never a huge fan of the series. Maybe I'll give this one a rent. I'll get my horror fix this year from Left 4 Dead and Dead Space.

Yeah bro. I got a 360 bro and I'm not a fratboy. Wassup? And bro, I barely drink. Right now, I'm only buzzed. It's not drinking unless you're drunk right?

Sorry KGB32, I couldn't resist.
well to be honest with you just about every game getting overly hyped are games that are seqeuls that sold pretty well the first time. gears 2 ,resistance 2 , etc. so new ips have to prove there not crap other wise to stand apart. as for silent hill they peaked at 2 and have been getting worse from there ,so this new installment needs to prove it self other wise.

no it wasnt and i wanna know where he got his stats from people who play games are the same all around.
I recall many games that got all kinds of hype before they proved themselves .. Fable comes to mind... I have seen screen shots and videos on Mirrors edge as well as Silent hill homecoming.. They look great.. The last post before this one proves how much these games dont get its deserved hype.. Im not calling for Halo type hype .. Just for it to be mentioned once in a while thats all.. I get so sick of games like Gears , Halo , getting an absorbant amount of praise when their is many other great games out there that dont ... celebate
I agree many underrated games never get mentioned. It's best to go to the games forums or unions in which they talk about the games. The vast majority only talk about the most "epic" games. I believe Crackdown,Viva pinata, and etc should be talked about more. Best thing you can do is start the thread yourself and hope others will post in it.
Not a Silent Hill fan..
Mirror's Edge looks amazing... I'm definately going to think about picking it up.
Gears 2 is going to be a rental for me... I really don't like the multiplayer and the single player can be completed in 10 hours... so I don't particuarly find it worth $60... even if it is amazing.
Mercenaries is just another shooter. The original didn't interest me... and this one doesn't either.
I'm looking forward to The Last Reminant, Fable 2, Fallout 3, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

wow that's incredibly stereotypical!
Stereotypes usually have at least some basis in reality. The Xbox/Halo got the jocks and frat boys playing games, now they kick nerdy kids butts at school,AND at home on Xbox Live. It may not be their "main" demographic, but it's a powerful one to them all the same. I know a few people like that, their entire collection consists of sports games and Halo.
