Ok, I'm a UK player who has only had a 360 about a year - I'd never played Halo before - now that I know Halo 3 is coming ouit I'm gonna be intrigued to get it - but what is it that makes it so special - I would like to know from Halo veterans - what sets it apart from other chooters - and will it be important that I ain't played Halo before??? Please let me know - cos I don't want the hype to overshadow what is probably gonna be a great game!!! Thanks!!!

Well, besides the story and the flawless gameplay, halo 3 will have more features in it to last you a couple years. That includes 2-4 player online co-op, Forge (kinda like gary's mod for Half-life 2),Meta games to challenge your friends in online coop, Unrivaled matchmaking system online, increased gametype customizablility (you can now adjust the gravity in custom games for example), a whole bunch of new vehicles, guns, and a new feature called equipment, and epic battle scenes. You wont go wrong with Halo 3 when it comes out sept 25th.

First, you should play Halo 1 and 2 since they are backwards compatible on 360. The graphics hold up pretty well since they were very advanced for the time. Halo 2 could be mistaken for a 360 game.

But Halo 3 pushes the FPS forward withmany vehicles. You have hover vehicles, tanks, flying vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, the warthog, etc. You can also have a friend (or 3) ride with you in many of them. The scale of the maps and battles will be huge. If you play online, you can save and edit entire MP matches. You can then send the videos to your friends. There may be a map edittor (according to some scans). 4 player co-op for the single-player campaign.

Honestly, if you don't know what makes Halo a good series by now, then nothing we say is going to convince you of anything. Due some research on the games & maybe you will end up convincing yourself.

Oh yes, and lets not forget the saved-films (you can save whole matches, or campaign run-throughs) and you can zoomout, change the angles of the camera, and you can also edit, that is also a very cool new feature.

Thanks for all the info so far...I'm not trying to whoop things up - I just don't know that much about The Halo series...apart from that it's supposed to be excellent - I just wondered what makes it different from other shooters on the market - it sounds amazing - would I need to be a Halo veteran to not get "owned" when Halo 3 comes out tho???

Naw! I don't consider myself great by any means at any fps, but the Halogames areso damn fun. The cool thing about this installment is that the new matchmaking system is going to place you with competitors of like rankings so if you never reach the upper echelons your still cool. You'll be with good company.

Well, what sets halo apart from other series is that it has fast action gameplaywith good controlsand integrates vehicles seemlessly into the mix and was the first console game to do this correctly. Ask for being completely new to the Halo series, the halo games are made so that even if you a are a total beginner you can still pick it up and have a fun time, but not in a way that doesnts alienate the hardcore fans. Bungie, the games creator, also made it so you will be playing people of your own rankon-line so you shouldnt find that everyone is better than you.

It's a great online game, but as far as the single player IMO the story is just ok, but for a shooter it's pretty impressive. The gameplay is what you would expect of a shooter with a few really cool weapons mixed in to make the arsenal more impressive.

All and all unless you have XBL I would say just rent it you'll probably be able to beat the campaign in the rental period.

I apologize I ment to say that's just how the first two were the third could be incredible and add something never before seen to the shooter experience.

Exactly. Play through Halo 1 and 2 and Halo 2 online. Then you'll understand the hype.

I disagree, i think, even if you did not have online, there is still much to do. You simply just need 2+ controlers and play co-op with your friends, or even mess around in Forge with you friends, or challenge your friends in a match or meta game. There is still much to do. Halo 1 did not have online but that was a buy, easily.

Actually i was refering to the control scheme and just the feel of the game. Thats what sets Halo apart from others, its gameplay to the fullest. (I wasnt talking about the balance issues halo and halo 2 had)

lol well THAT initial statement was biased. flawless gameplay my ass. XD

I like the story. The story is pretty bad, unless you read the novels; the characters are fleshed out unbelievably, you learn about master cheif's past, and how hopeless the human race's situation is.

There is also the amazing gameplay, both offline and on.

Actually, somebody did convince me to give it a try, just today.

I just bought a 360 and a buddy of mine at work was telling me that he and some friends were planning to have a LAN party the weekend after launch to just basically screw around all day and play video games. Since Halo 3 was the game he was really basing the party around I told him that I'd love to come but frankly I'd never really gotten into Halo 1 so I wasn't sure I'd be all that into 3.

I really don't care for the frantic pace of Halo. I like stealth based games better usually.

However as he told me about Halo 2 and the story and about how much fun the MP was I've started to consider giving it another chance.

I'll probably at least rent it or maybe get hooked during our gathering.

It may not be my usual cup of tea but too many people love it for it not to have something going for it.
