Since the other day I was seeing that perposterous claim that installing games to the HDD effects the graphics in a game (which is blatantly false) - I searched around and came across this comparison done by MTV.

This is not some hacked together YouTube video with 2 monitors side by side making ridiculous claims - this is a TECH demo showing the game speed/load time differences between using the Hard Drvie or reading the game from DVD.

If this doesn't make you want to install to the Hard Drive I don't think anything will and you should just keep playing from DVD - unless noise is your reason for using the Hard Drive of course.

6 to 10 seconds advantage may not sound like much but after you watch this video - It may change your mind.

The load times are truly negligible. What is 10 seconds really? I am going to do it for a quieter system and potentially minimizing my chances of RRoD.

I will probably install games that take a long time to load and load often. So probably just Halo 3, Oblivion and The Orange Box for now.

Did you watch the videos? In my opinion it's a HUGE difference in load times - not negligible. But that is just my opinion.

Thanks for the input man.

I did watch the videos. I just think the loading times are sooo long to begin with that shaving 10 seconds or so off isn't doing much. But that is just me. But I really like the fact that my console will be quiter and wont produce as much heat.

Yup - there are allot of advantages to using the HDD for sure. Just to be clear too - I wasn't contradicting your opinion. what is significant to me isn't to you and vice versa - the great thing is with this NXE update - we both win!!! :)

To those saying 10 seconds or so is negligible think about it this way, what about in games were the game is constantly loading like Fable 2 for instance you don't think 10 seconds here, 20 seconds there and so on won't add on in the long run? And what really bugs me about these comparisons popping up here on the web all test these games loading times against the start up screens not actual in game, its an unfair comparison that makes it look like it isn't that much of a difference because you can't skip those screens. They are only measuring how long the game took to start, like in the case of Fable 2 they only showed 1 actual loading screen in that whole vid and it smoked the disc based portion but both took forever to get to that point.

Except for the fact that I like the blade setup we currently have more :(

Oh well, a small price to pay for better performance I suppose.

Or anywhere outside of the US. Seems like it's one of those arrogant American things I guess.

I'm gonna install one game but that's all. The 20 (14) GB only has enough space for one game. Probably gone be Gears 2 (I'll be playing that most) or Fallout 3 because that's rich on loading times.

I have the 120 GB hard drive from my Elite system, and approximately 90 GB's are free. I'm going to save any game I'm currently playing just because I can. :-D

I'm buying a bigger hard drive just so I can install all of my games on it. I hate how loud my disc drive is so I'll be a happy man once that thing isn't revving up anymore.

I wont install EVERY game onto my HDD.. Just the ones like F2 that made the 360 louder than a jet engine. The time difference does not really matter to me, Loading screens are the time for toilet brakes after all!

That's really good but I think the best part is that they don't force you to do it for every game.

Anyway I'm definitly going to use it for big games like Fallout 3.

Load times haven't been a problem for me, graphics pop in, and noise are a little annoying. I have a 120Gb and I'm not buying Gears 2 or Fallout untill after the fall update. I found that Gears 1 to be a very noisy game. Is it me do some 360 games spin faster in the drive than others?

I do believe you are correct about some games tending to spin faster than others. When I play Halo 3 I can't even hear the disc spinning, but when I played Far Cry 2 my 360 was incredibly loud and annoying.

I think - MAYBE - that is something to do with MTV and their site? Not sure why - but it sounds like allot of people are having issues with that. Too bad too - because those videos put to rest any doubts for me.

To those saying 10 seconds or so is negligible think about it this way, what about in games were the game is constantly loading like Fable 2 for instance you don't think 10 seconds here, 20 seconds there and so on won't add on in the long run? EXACTLY!!!

By the end of the game you may have saved an hour or two - depending on how long you played a particular game of course (and no I don't mean in one sitting - that would take forever to add up to an hour or two). And that hour or two can be spent playing another game!

It does appear to be a significant differencae anyway to me. It seems especially noticable on the Fable II and the GTA-IV vids - the Gears one had a little speed boost but not much.

:)

ANYTHING to quiet that thing down a bit. I'll take whatever I can get in that dept.

And 15 seconds saved while loading GTA 4 is anything but negligible.

There's no way Grand Theft Auto takes that long to load. But on the topic of installation; there's definitely a few I'd install, such as Mass Effect, Oblivion and maybe the Orange Box, but since I only have a 20gb hard drive... egh... pardon me, a 13gb hard drive, I fear that I won't be able to profit from this feature as much as I'd like.

I don't plan on installing any games. The 360 storage is very limited and expensive. If we could use a standard HDD then I would considering installing some games. Until then though, my 360's storage will be occupied by The Shivering Isles and XBLA games.

I will burn some games, but i got way too many, and don't play them all regularly, to burn everything. Games i play constantly, Gears 2, Rockband 2, CoD4, etc., those are the games i plan on burning to the harddrive.
