I've been reading a lotta posts about Oblivion crashing etc... Is that happening to everyone?! I got the CE Edition a while ago but still 'finishing' GRAW (one game at a time), so it's next on my list. I want to make sure it's not gonna mess up my 360. I've been treating it pretty good with not more than 4 hr sessions and unplugging the brick too so I don't want any surprises with Oblivion. Anyone played Oblivion a lot without any issues?

It does not crash. It tends to lock up every now and then. It will not mess up your 360. If lockups killed hardware PCs would be burning through hardware all the time... Oh and unplugging your power brick is pointless.

Through 50 hours of gameplay the game has not crashed once. It has frozen up twice though after 8 hour marathons.

Dude you are doing WAYYY TOO much. Just don't be a complete idiot with the system and you will be fine. Unplugging it and limiting your playtime is just ridiculous. That's like buying a new car but you only drive it an hour a day because it might overheat.

I'va had two incidences of freezing, nothing unusual for a PC gaming veteran. Overall the game is very stable considering what a great undertaking it is.

sometimes the amount of stuff going on in the game just overloads the system and the game just stops but the amount of times the game autosaves, you will never need worry. just turn off your console and turn it back on or leave it for a bit to cool down

OK guys, to make things clearer: About the 4 hours, it's not me setting a limit, it's the max. amount of time I can play (start at 10-11PM). I'm just saying I haven't played over 4 hours not that I won't. About the brick, I know it doesn't really impact the 360 but it's current location is not ideal (ventilation-wise) and I can't place the system anywhere else for now. So it doesn't hurt to spend 2 extra secs to plug/unplug :-) About the crashes (like PC), well with a PC you can start it in safe mode / boot disk / format /rebuild etc.. and diagnose, with the 360 you can't, if it breaks, it breaks so it's not as identical in terms of troubleshooting. Just wanted to know if crashing in Oblivion is a common thing. Thx again

I don't think you understand what "Crashing" means. If the game Crashes it means the system will show somekind of error message. That is a crash. The game just Locks up or freezes. This is not a Crash. The game tends to lock up at times. Only during loading screens for me. It has never locked up during game play. When your power brick is plugged in and your system is off. It will cool down at the same rate as it would unplugged. So your reasoning still doesn't make since.

on the pc with my million gigs of ram and HD space, it works fine, but doesnt look as good. (apparently x850xtpe doesnt support HDR..)  on the xbox, its fps and graphics are a lot better, but the load times can get HORRIBLE (After like 6+ hours play sessions.)

My game has frozen about 3 times or so... But It's nothing too rash or often. I had been playing for like 5 hours. It needed to cool down, in my opinion.

I've played it for about 20hours all together and its only mucked up once, and that was just a message came up on my guide that the disc was dirty and unreadable even though the disc was fine, but thats the only thing so far.

I play this game about 5-6 hours a day ( between my wife and I ), and it has frozen probably 6-7 times total.  That's not too bad in my opinion.  I mean, PC games will crash around the same rate.  This is computer code, it is bound to happen.  I wouldn't necessarily blame it on the hardware.

I haven't had any hiccups or glitches since I started Oblivion (knocks on wood).  I also unplug my Power Brick every night, pointless or not, I still feel better about it.

People ranting about crashes Oblivion is experiencing pretty much people who have nothing good to say abotu the game. the only time it's locked up on me was due to me playing 12 hours straight. And when I turned off the console and turned it back on, it loaded up my most recent autosave. So, it was no big deal. Oblivion usually autosaves the game whever you finish up a quest.

well i think the game is brilliant i had three days with no problems then it froze on me twice in the brotherhood sanctuary with 30 mins of eachother but it is expected when playin hours on end and with all the loading to bring all of the detail in its worth a couple of restarts in my opinion.

No crashes here but I have had tons of lock-ups.  I don't know why but I can count on at least 3 crashes in a 6 hour time period.  It won't mess up your system it just needs a lot to run the game so lock ups are here until they find a way to patch it or something.

I will be the first here to say that yes my oblivion is screwed. for no reason. tried putting my xbox live together the other day (cause i've been too lazy to care up till now) and my oblivion was in the console when i was trying it. couldn't get live set up. Now whenever i try to play oblivion (just oblivion, other games work) it takes like 10 minutes to load, everytime i try n change armour it freezes for like a minute (which is a long time when you're tryin to play a game) and now i don't think the game even loads right up from a save at all. man i can't even skip the credits at the beginning before the title screen comes up. anyone else besides me wondering WTF?! oh and btw, i tried someones elses oblivion and got the same problem so i'm pretty sure its my xbox and not the game itself.

I've had numerous lock ups AND crashes where I get an error message. Hasn't stopped me from playing this otherwise great game, but it's still annoying as hell when you hear the disc stop spinning and you know you're about to lose a bunch of work.

For me theres an entire chunk of the map that if you step into it the entire game crashes, which means i cant complete the Fighter's Guild quests! There are glitches and lags in this game: dont be fooled. Ive also tried it with my mates CDs so it cant be due to scratches.

like everybody else is saying, it just stops for a bit, but that only happens if you have been playing it for way too long.

Somebody also said that unplugging your power brick is pointless, why is it pointless? i unplug it every time i stop. tell me if it is actually doing me good.

A good tip for preventing freeze ups, is dont dupe too many items in the game at once. When I first tried it, I duped like, thousands of pieces of paper. That will freeze the game....

Never had a "crash" when I owned the game.  It did freeze a few times, but that was only after I had played a lot and was running through areas where it had to load the environment really quickly.  Other than that, wonderful game!

after 300+ hours with two characters it has only frozen once, and that was at the Clavicus Vile shrine. It runs well even after a sraight 8 hour session. If you baby your console to much something is bound to happen to it, you need to relax and just game, is it expensive, sure, but it is replaceable and fixable.

I have played the game a alot 150+ hours and it only froze a handful of times. The only problem is the clavicus quest, but all you need to do is be on xbox when you start the game one time and it will tell you to downlod the patch that will fix it. So go for it and play the damn game.

My copy of Oblivion has not had a major crash or hardware failure, but it has frozen maybe 6 times at the most(and I have put 50-75 hours into it), so I would say that this isn't a major problem. Sometimes it wants to really slow down when loading, but like someone already said, all that you have to do is clear the cache on the hard drive by holding down the A button while you start up. Oblivion definatly does not cause hardware failures.

Oblivion crashes regularly for me, at least once everytime i play.  It always crashes when i attempt to speak to a NPC.  It complains of a disc read error and and then i have to turn the machine off and on.

I am extremely careful with my discs and their are no visible scratches and this is the only game i have problens with.

As soon as it happens i give up on it out of sheer frustration.

To give you a heads up, I was getting dirty disk errors and as time went by, they were happening more frequently. Eventually my disk drive failed and I had to ship it in for repair.

I've froze the game 2, maybe 3 times in about 90 hours of play. Load times are frequent, but the game freezing up isn't bad. However, as far as glitches go, they seem relatively abundant, but what do you expect in a massive game. I couldn't join the Mage's Guild in my first file so I had to start a new file to complete that quest line and get the achievements.

As far as unplugging the console goes... makes no sense, as long as you are on a surge protector you'll be fine. Some might say you should have a line filter as well.

My Oblivion GOTY edition crashes... i just bought it today, along with the 360 Pro Forza Bundle majigger. after creating my character, when i approach the cell door, it fails to load, andinsists to be cleaned and restarted... like many others probably would be, i am quite annoyed with this.

anyone got some ideas? besides trying to switch for a different copy.

Oblivion indeed crash. Once I even had to restart the whole game because it crashed right when it was saving, the saving file got corrupted. I had about 15 hours of gaming. After that, every after 5 hours I did a backup saving just to be sure.

I put 100+ hours into that game and it only froze a handful of times. So play the game.
