this is so hard i have no idea what to do or how to do it. i looked it up on google and youtube, theres some tutorials on youtube but not even those help me because most of them are cheating ways

ive watched videos they're suppose to lock onto the top, but i dont know how to do that, and i dont really think you answered my question? ive tried doing it in different ways and i even tried just pressing it up for like 5 minutes but i CANT do it, not even the very easys
Oblivion's lockpicking system, like much of the game, is a broken one.GodLovesDead
First of all, I love people with their righteous opinions about how some top-selling, award-winning game is simply "broken". What is actually "broken" about the lockpick minigame?
The lockpick minigame just takes practice. Flick each one of the pins up with the stick. Each time you flick it up it will rise and fall with varying speed, so flick it up a good number of times and just watch the speeds at which it goes up and down, wait until you get the most predictable and slow movement, and use the A button to lock it into place JUST when it reaches the top. I was horrible at first but now can pretty much breeze through a very hard lock, it just takes practice, you have to get the rythym down.
I answered your question. You press the action button (A, or X, I don't recall) when the pin at its highest point in the lock chamber. And to dirtydishko2, it's broken because the security skill is a useless one. A character who has never touched a lock in their life has the capability to pick even the toughest of locks. Exactly as I said, if you have any hand-eye coordination, you can pick all of the locks in the game without ever breaking a pick.ive watched videos they're suppose to lock onto the top, but i dont know how to do that, and i dont really think you answered my question? ive tried doing it in different ways and i even tried just pressing it up for like 5 minutes but i CANT do it, not even the very easys

The security skill is for auto picking not for doing it yourself.XPHOBOS666XIt works for auto lock-picking, but it also reduces the amount of pins that reset if you make a mistake. Either way, it's 100% useless with a tiny amount of player skill.
Don't forget: you can always use a lockpicking scroll, learn the spell, or enchant an item to pick a lock.

i have some trick! that i use to picklocking anydoor ,chest in oblivion ..with this trick i can use 20 or less (maybe 10 "or less")
to open every locked door, chest i found in a whole game
>>when you picklocking look for it's pattern there are 2-3 pattern 1.fast 2.slow 3.slow"est" (just try to pick it without click and you will see)
>>you can picking it easiest when it come to slowest pattern have some practice and u can do it very fun ^^"

No because player skill massively outweighs the benefit of having higher stats.
With other skills like pickpocketing it is entirely worked out on the stats. Combat has some element of player skill - timing your strikes, but ultimately the game calculates if you hit or not.
With lockpick someone who has practised the lockpick mini game can start a new character and be much better at it than a player with a higher character skill but less personal skill at the minigame. RPGs are traditionally based around the stats and the games making checks against your stats to determine if you are successful or not - player skill plays very little role in it

That is because it is a role playing game, not a slash n' bash. The security skill is for auto picking not for doing it yourself.XPHOBOS666XActually, I think you'll find it gets slower (less dropping tumblers) the higher your skill is.
An easy way I use is to listen to the tumblers. Whenever you push a tumbler up, it will makeone ortwo squeak noises. If it makes one squeak, it is going to be fast, but if you hear 2, it will rise slower. The pitch of the firstsqueak is also slightly lower if it is going to rise slowly. It just takes practice.

Sure, it works, but it's poorly conceptualized. It breaks gameplay balance, and several problems such as this one bring the game apart. Not everyone is blessed with low standards. Quit trolling about how much you don't like the game, that is not the topic.
I also had a lot of trouble with the lock picking skill but theres a special item in the games called the skeleton key that you can get which is a lock pick that never breaks and adds I think 50 points to your lock picking skill. The quest isn't to hard to get this item so I'd recomend trying to get it.
Skeleton's Key Shrine- Nocturnal Level- 10 Shrine Location- NNE of Leyawinn Map Marker from- Alves Unium in the Mages Guild with the topic Daedric Shrines Skeletons Key 5000 gold weightless This lockpick not only fortifies your security by 40 points, it never breaks no matter what. Probably one of the better artifacts. The quest is short and easy and the massive security fortify and unbreakable lockpicks means no more moaning because you need a lockpick. Sell all the lockpicks you got and just keep this one. I say don't give this up.brain3dyep, this is a awesome solution. morrowind also had it but with a limit.
