Don't get me wrong Oblivion is a very good game, but im not sure its worth the 9.6 GS gave it. I reckon its worth about a 8.5 to 9.0. For a game to deserve a score of 9.6 it should be pretty much flawless but Oblivion has its fare share of flaws imo. Firstly constant loading screens, bearable at first but quickly become annoying, everytime you enter a house, leave a house, travel, wait etc. Huge world but mostly empty. The towns are interesting but when you venture into the wilderness, you may find the occasional cave etc, nothing of that much interest. Glitchy, the amount of glitches is remarkable, read any Oblivion guide on gamefaqs and you'll hear about the many glitches to be aware of. I've encountered a few myself, gaurds attacking me for absolutely no reason, getting bounties even though the crime you committed wasn't seen at all, gaurds appearing out of nowhere. There was one instance when a gaurd was appearing deep in a cave, the quest required you to trespass into a basement. Quests that just won't work at all, only encountered one so far but it just happenes to be the quest to get rid of vampirism, I've consulted many guides and are doing everything as required but yet the witch still won't accept my grand soul gems, because of this im now stuck as a vampire which is a seroius pain sometimes. The gameplay is fairly bland imo, press attack and you do a weapon thrust, become expert in blade and you get an extra two variations yay. Most spells require a large amount of mana, meaning for the first 10 to 15 levels or so you are restricted to a small amount of boring spells. Cool to use but nothing like the spells you can do in games such as WoW.
The main quest is fairly short and not all that great, not bad, but I found myself wanting to finish it just to get it over with, rather than being genuinely excited about the story. The aid for bruma quest is probably the worst part imo, close the gates for each town, practically the exact same thing for each town. The oblivion portals are nearly identical, just a different variation of opening a gate, destroying the sigil stone. Each building that cases the sigil stone are exactly the same in each oblivion plain, kind of lazy on the games developers if you ask me. Plus there are only four or five different types of enemies that come out of the plains.
I have enjoyed playing Oblivion but at times it can be boring and often frustrating, a great game, but not worthy of the high score its been given by many. Your thoughts?
