Straight from Xbox.com.

  • Buy the way you want disc or digital on the same day: Youll be able to buy disc-based games at traditional retailers or online through Xbox Live, on day of release. Discs will continue to be a great way to install your games quickly.

  • Access your entire games library from any Xbox One no discs required: After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud.  So, for example, while you are logged in at your friends house, you can play your games.

  • Share access to your games with everyone inside your home: Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games.  Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you.

  • Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friends house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games.  You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

  • Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.  Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

  • Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

Kinect Privacy:

  • You are in control of what Kinect can see and hear: By design, you will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup. The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used. When Xbox One is on and youre simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded.

  • You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you dont want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say Xbox Off. When the system is off, its only listening for the single voice command -- Xbox On, and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so youll need to turn it back on for these experiences.

  • You are in control of your personal data: You can play games or enjoy applications that use data, such as videos, photos, facial expressions, heart rate and more, but this data will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission. Here are a few examples of potential future scenarios:
    • A fitness game could measure heart rate data to provide you with improved feedback on your workout, allow you to track your progress, or even measure calories burned.
    • A card game could allow you to bluff your virtual opponent using your facial expressions.

  • You can use other inputs to control your games, TV and entertainment experiences: While its faster to find what youre looking for using your voice and gesture commands with Kinect, you can use a controller, your remote controls or your smart devices instead. And you can use all of these devices when Kinect is paused.

Well have more information available as we get closer to product availability later this year.

Don't forget this. "A new generation of games with power from the cloud: Because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when youre not playing. While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection. With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies." So the online requirement has been confirmed. I'm baffled that Microsoft would limit their userbase like this.

Under what circumstance would this happen? This is the worst argument against these MS policies. If you lose internet you likely won't have power either so it's moot.

Today's announcement is better, but I'm far from convinced.

The used games thing: 30 days on someones friend list to play a game...I can live with that...but you can only lend it once (still a deal breaker for me).

Increase it to 4/5 people, I'll be happier.

But this only reflects my situation...someone else might have more friends or none at all lol...so they might like/ dislike the news respectivly.

24hr online thing: personally I don't see my internet going out too often...only very rarely...So I don't think it will be a big deal as far as I'm concerned.

But for someone else living in the village with a nonsense connection...I can imagine they wouldn't be too pleased.

These are only two points to the puzzle though...more pieces at e3...

My fears have been somewhat alleviated..Good info to know. Let's see which publishers would scr*w themselves by charging for re-selling games/used games.

I wouldnt mind betting the vast majority of publishers will. Its easy money isnt it. Provided its going to the publishers I dont really care. Then again I dont think I have ever purchased a used game.

To a point, yes. Much can change between now and when the system is launched. Hopefully we'll get more concrete and concise answers to our questions.

I can see how it could still work in time, but it's going to have to rely on the rental companies such as gamefly, lovefilm etc being provided tools by Microsoft that lets them relinquish the license each time the disc is returned, and not being restricted by the same limitations that are in effect for just giving the disc away to a friend - as it would contravene those rules straight away. Still does stink though, I rent a large majority of the games I play.

it's value vs paying a premium. I bet if we did give them more money it would benefit them more than the common gamer.

Like they would take the bulk of the money & only invest a smaller amount back into the games & company to improve things for us. where's the value/ interest for the common gamer then.

if someone argues oh the company might close down... I say, another new one is always to replace it with something else.

I'm all for developers to have a respectable amount of cash to make great games, but sometimes I feel like it's extortion at times for normal people the ways things are heading

because the idea that you are only buying a license to use the product is, and always has been complete bullshit. consumers expect that when they buy something, they own it, and can do whatever they want with it. it has always been that way, and is still that way with EVERYTHING BUT SOFTWARE. the fact that game makers/software companies think that they are special and should have special rules is a plague that needs to be stopped. at some point, someone is going to have to push the idea that consumers own the software that they buy all the way to the supreme court and there is going to have to be a ruling. until then, consumers are going to continue to get bullied by these corps. at least in the USA.

just wait for the big publishers to announce that next gen games are going to be 70 dollars.

im telling you right now, Activision is going to atleast TRY it with COD to see if they can still sell. i will not be paying 70 dollars for a game. 60 is bad enough. i will absolutely stop gaming on consoles if that happens.

It's not really how much money devs have to make games. If a developer knows they will make more money from sales with used games out of the pictures, they can take more risks and do more different things. Games are changing tragically fast to things that the companies think will sell well rather than make a better game. There are stories out there all the time. There was just an article about he Dungeon Defenders sequel where the director said make the game like LoL cause that game is doing well and insanely popular right now. The COD and Assassin's Creed games are milked cause they make money, while hardly an innovation is put into the subsequent release. Better return to developers = a greater leniency to explore and innovate. These guys don't want to make the same boring crap and copy what the rest of the industry is doing, and gamers don't want it either. Just look at how popular these kickstarters games are. Games that are guaranteed to be something new with no publisher oversight.

You can't rent them or sell them on EBay which sucks. It also doesn't tell you that XBox One has to check in every 24hrs to confirm which games you still own or not. Even when you insert a new game into XBox One it has to go out to the internet and tag it under your account. Their servers keep track of all the games you own and if those servers crash and burn, you won't be able to play ANY of your games, whether you own the disc or not. It's total BS. It's like you're renting the discs. At $60a pop for a game, it shouldn't be a rental system.
