Hi, my shiny new premium 360 came today and so far I'm very happy with it! The only problem I have is that my internet connection is a fair way from my room, i've had a long ethernet cable trailed across the house and down the stairs today, but its not very viable (or safe) for the long run. I've been looking into the official wireless adapter but it seems really pricey, is there a cheaper alternative? wikipedia suggested there was 3rd party alternatives, but i've not seen any?

so to recap.

is there an alternative to the official wireless adapter?

if so, where?

cheers.

well do you have a wireless laptop? if so you can hook up the ethernet cable to it and change the network settings to to shared and play xbox live.

You can search the internet for Wireless gaming adapters, I know a couple companys make them and they are cheaper than the official microsoft adapter. I personally use a Linksys WET54G. It is not designed specifically for gaming and requires some configuration on a computer but it works well for me and only cost me like $60 2 years ago. Hope that helps.

Theirs a guy on Ebay who sells a very cheap alternative. I've looked at his feedback and it seems to work. Its only a couple bucks so maybe look into that?

the best way is ethernet or the wireless adapter

if you start using ethernet to a pc then to wireless it will just slow the process down i guess

a better alternative would be to use an ethernet cable to a wireless access point which connects directly to the wireless router, as the ethernet and access point are both dedicated to that job whereas at PC might not, also you may not have a PC near your 360 or a laptop!

do NOT. i repeat do NOTT! get a third party adapter. they constantly lose connection and don't work as good as the official one. In this case, you DO get what you pay for.
