They are begining to make me angry. My complaint? Putting out game reviews for titles that won't come out for another week or two. Who are they to do that (don't say Microsoft... I already know that)...

I don't care if they get the game early, I hate looking at a score and not being able to see why... it's like they're teasing me. Rubbing the games in my face because they got to play them first.

This shouldn't be allowed, all critics should be able to review the game early if they so choose, but they shouldn't be able to release the review unto the public until the game comes out on that specific day!

I know I am getting pissed, anyone else feel the same?

"sigh" Oh well... at least my anger has a logical reason behind it.

I also don't trust OXM at all, but still, annoying!

I don't understand what you're angry at.

Are you angry that they got to play the game before you did? If so that's pretty damn childish, if it bothers you that much become a journalist.

Or are you angry that some reviewers get to release their review earlier than others, and that it's a bit unfair?

I wish reviews came out early for ALL magazines/websites, then I would actually be able to buy games day one and not half to wait for reviews to come out, just so I can be positive that games I want don't completely suck. (Also, OXM isn't part of Microsoft, their completely seperate)

The latter.... I hate seeing a review for a game that hasn't come out yet... but then I loose my cool when I can't read why they gave the game the score they did....

Plus it is unfair that others are allowed to release their reviews first. Every critic should release their reviews on the day the game comes out!!

Is that so much to ask!?

Do you understand the point of reviews? Reviews are intended to help people to decide if they should or shouldn't buy a game. If you've already bought the game why would you need to read the review?

You can't really get mad at them though when they give something a bad reveiw which most people liked (Dead Space) becasue a review is essentially, how they liked the game.

If your standing on a ledge, leaning towards buying a game but at the same time leaning away from it and there's a review out that only gives you a score and no explanation isn't that kind of unfair and pointless?

I for one want to read a review if a game gets a 10 out of 10 so I can see why, same with a game that gets a 7 out of 10. Why did it get that score? I don't know because they won't tell me until the game is released. That is what I call teasing.

I agree that there should that there should be a certain date where reviews shuoldn't be aloud out before hand, but it needs to be before the game is out, that's the main point in reviews really, so you know if it's any good to buy.

But you know they have like two page spreads of text covering the review right? It's not just a bunch of numbers.
Well, I've never read OXM but I've read others and I assume they don'just give out numbers.

I focus on OXM, as they seem to be really the kings of this action recently. Fallout 3, Gears 2, Little Big Planet, Dead Space, Fable II, all these games were reviewed by them at least a week before the game came out.

Which is bull and as a person who respects people who review games (critics) I find this completely unprofessional and pointless.

Hang on a second. Let me see if I'm understanding this right. You're saying OXM review games before the game is released but the review isn't a review, it's just a score out of 10? So on the page it says "Fallout 3, 10 out of 10" and that's it? I buy OXM and I know that isn't true. No in the UK anyway.

I am equally confused. Also it's not like other companies and places don't get early copies of the game either. It's not like they're the only ones getting early coppies because they're tied with microsoft.

By your posts (I don't read OXM) it seems that their reviews simply consist of scores? I find that impossible; I'm sure they write a review correct? Please clear this up as if in fact they do write reviews then what's the big deal? OXM is NOT rubbing the fact that they got to play a game before you in your face. Secondly, how does this bother you? shouldn't early reviews be good? I mean that way you can weigh in their opinions and decide to get it or not.

As for having all reviews released on the same day... yeah, whatever your smoking, let me get some.

"This shouldn't be allowed, all critics should be able to review the game early if they so choose, but they shouldn't be able to release the review unto the public until the game comes out on that specific day!"

that's just stupid, they can release their reviews whenever they want.

For those who don't read the magazine! People who just read online reviews have to wait until game day to actually read the full written reviews.

So instead they get to look at a score for a week and wonder why it was given that.

To clarify... (sorry this stuff gets me a little upset), I know they have full written reviews in their magazine, but they shouldn't put it out on the internet for those of us who don't get to read those reviews.

On the day the game is released, reviews should be unveiled, not before.

not true, for example, IGN has already released their Resistance 2 review. In fact, many online game sites release reviews before a game comes out.

Next, the second thing you said... "wonder why it got that"? maybe read the review and then you'll understand why it got that?

again, why on earth should magazines/sites have to release reviews on the day a game comes out? that makes no sense.

Calm down :P (irony)

To your next point, "read a differnt review" that makes no sense because I just spent the last posts talking about how OXM reveals scores in their magazine, posts them on the web, and then doesn't let people who don't subscribe to the magazine read the reviews until the game comes out!

I think you're getting worked up over nothing because there's a few ways around your 'problem'. You could always buy the magazine if you wanted to see why it received that score or you could just stop going on the OXM site or you could go online on the games release date and see the full review. Release dates are very easy to find. But yeah. Stop getting worked up over nothing.

False.

IGN, among other review sites online, give reviews in detail before a game is released. Stop getting hung up on just oxm online score reviews and do some more research into which sites provide you with reviews before the game comes out.

Gears of War 2 already has a review by OXM on the site, where's the IGN full written review?

Ths is just a silly, blow off some steam and raise a fuss over nothing topic.

Maybe the game isnt as good as you thought and got a 6.5. Would you consider buying it or not? Then you would wonder and then the other reviews would clear that up.

Fallout 3 is crazy good. It's my favorite 360 game!

Does anybody see my point? I am not freaking out over this or blowing my stack. I am merely pointing out that OXM, is putting out scores on the web, early, and not allowing anyone who doesn't own the magazine (this part is important) to read the review! It annoys me and I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same...

Instead you all sit here and claim I'm not an adult, and that I don't check my facts, and shockingly enough I did both!

Like I already don't know that IGN reviews games a couple days before they come out? Are you serious?

Go look at Gears of War 2, OXM UK gave it a 9 out of 10 and there's no written review....

It's my opinion! This topic wasn't even about that until someone got confused and asked me to be more specific. So I presented my opinion in the simplest way I could think of.

OXM, stop putting scores out on the web early for those of us who can't read your written reviews.

Reviwers in general, put out written reviews and scores when the game comes out.

There it is plain as day!

TheDanwich

You said earlier, "I hate seeing a review for a game that hasn't come out yet... but then I loose my cool when I can't read why they gave the game the score they did....

Plus it is unfair that others are allowed to release their reviews first. Every critic should release their reviews on the day the game comes out!!"

You just have issues. Learn to deal with those issues as best as you can. Find sites that give you what you want out of a review, or simply dont look at reviews until the game is out if you dont want to be 'teased' or 'aggrevaed' by the 'injustice' of this silly complaint.

TheDanwich

You are hilarious, do you know that? First of all, why would they review Little Big Planet when OXM is essentially, a game magainze which reviews games only for Xbox 360. Second of all, they DO NOT only put a score. They have at least a page or two for each game and sometimes more if it's a very popular game, such as, GTA 4 or Halo 3. Third of all, they DO NOT try and rub it in your face when they get to play a newly released game before you. They are doing their job which is reviewing games on a timely basis - whether or not, it's an early review, which if you did not know by now, is a good thing. Why do you ask? Because, then people that are deciding whether or not they should buy a game, at least have something to look/read and help them decide. Seriously, why did you create this topic?

It's my opinion! This topic wasn't even about that until someone got confused and asked me to be more specific. So I presented my opinion in the simplest way I could think of.

OXM, stop putting scores out on the web early for those of us who can't read your written reviews.

Reviwers in general, put out written reviews and scores when the game comes out.

There it is plain as day!

TheDanwich

Right, my minor over exagerated presentation of an issue I actually have a well thought out opinon of means I some how have issues because you don't agree with me.

I don't understand what you're angry at.

Are you angry that they got to play the game before you did? If so that's pretty damn childish, if it bothers you that much become a journalist.

agreed!

Who does it really hurt if they put scores only on their website? Really? La-d-flippin-da if the score is there before the game comes out and before a full review is out...Its just giving a quick glmpse to the free-loaders who dont want to pay for a subscription.

Reviews can come out days early or day of a game release and again, its not hurting anyone...the review is there to give you an idea of the game quick enogh to let you decide if the game is worth it or not.

Either that, or a number of different alternatives. For instance, read other game review magazines or review websites. I should also mention that you are lucky that OXM is nice enough to put their reviews online for free, when they have the ability and right to charge for that as well, similar to their magazine. Stop bashing something so simple and get used to reality. They are doing you a favour and trying to help you - it's a privilege, not a right.

Any way, I'm going to be the mature one around here and stop talking about this because obviously you've taken my clearly stated point and are currently trying to convince me that I am wrong.

Plus, I have to tell you that I still feel my point was lost among your inability to see my logic, or reasoning.

It makes sense people, think about it...

Well thought out opinion? Didn't you think of BUYING THE MAGAZINE? That doesn't take much thought and would've instantly solved your problem. You keep ignoring this simple fact, though.

Good idea, since you are obviously not trying to convince us that you're right.

The entire topic should have been a blog anyway...No offense.

You should get Game Informer. Much better magazine.
