so my xbox has just shown the 3 red rings, natrually im dissapointed i was happy with the console up until now, on the + side of things i took out an extra warrenty with my local store so that i can just return the system to their particular store and recieve and new 360 instead of going through microsoft which is what they will then have to do. so getting a new console will simply be a matter of exchanging at the store

but im really not happy with having to lose all my saved data, is it possible to simply swap the HDD out from my existing 360 into the 360 that the store is replacing? if so do you just pull out that thing on my 360 that says "HDD" and put the other 1 in,

also has any1 experienced something similar with their store having this same offer of exchange and did that store allow you to swap the HDD?

i have so much saved data that if i can keep it im thinking i may re-roll into a dare i say.. nintendo wii so i can have smash bros

overall im not impressed :(

i had the same sort of warranty at gamestop. I was starting to get way too many disc errors so i decided to take advantage of the warranty. When I was exchanging it, I asked if I could just keep my old HD, he said ya, so i took the thing home. He completely 4got to keep the new HD so i got to take home my old HD and I gave the new HD to my friend who had a core system.

so short answer, yes you can do it, at gamestop that is.

Don't return your HDD, whether you are returning it to a store or to MS.

If you take it back to a store just explain to the assistant you have kept your HDD and they can take the new one out of the replacement bundle you are getting.

Microsoft gets you to send in the console without the HDD and they either repair or replace it. Once you get your new or repaired 360, you can just put on your old HDD and continue where you left off in all your games and such.
