If you haven't already gotten a 360, but really want one, just you can't decide if it's worth it if you don't have an ""HDTV""... You shouldn't even think about buying an HDTV in the first place. The graphics are EXACTLY the same on my SDTV compared to my friend's HDTV. The only thing is that if you sity Reeeeeeeeeallly close, SDTVs look a little blurry. But honestly, do you play video games 2 inches away from your TV??? I don't think so. I sit 3-5 feet away and my 3 year old SDTV still makes 360 look amazing. HDTV is hyped and overatted way to much. And for the people that will say "HDTV is better because...blah blah blah....", it's just bullsh!t. They are just trying to justify themselves wasting 5 Grand on a TV that will be $700 bucks in 3 years. So don't worry about having an HDTV because it doesn't make a difference if you are sitting a normal distance away from the TV. I was weary about 360 and HDTVs but now I think "Wtf is this sh!t about 360 and HDTVs theres no difference" IMHO. So there ya have it. HD is pointless and gimmicky, only to fool those with too much money and not enough brains.

You're right in saying that not having an HDTV should not keep you from buying a 360, but the difference in clarity is pretty amazing, though not worth anything more than $2k in my opinion.  I actually bought a 19" LCD pc monitor and I play at 1280 * 768, (which is essentially 720p and HD) for just under $200 and it looks great!

I have an sd and the xbox360 looks amazing on it. but my friend has an hd and it looks better on his. not just 2 inches away, it looks a lot better.

are you sure your friend has the hd cables set up and not just the components?

You're so far off on this one.

I'm playing on an SDTV through component cables. And I'm lucky. Most SDTVs don't have this option. But as a test, I played using the standard RCA cord, just to see what was happening.  And what I found is that people stuck with that set up are going to see flickering text, some muddier details, and, in some cases, text that is just impossible to read.

That said, GoW still looks amazing. GRAW, too. These games are totally playable. But having seen everything on my friend's HDTV, there's no doubt in my mind that that will be my next big purchase. There's no comparison... the HDTV just looks way sharper and even more stunning and impressive.

Don't let the fact that you have an SDTV keep you from buying the 360. There are demos on the XBL for just about every game, so you can test each one on your particular set up. But don't be deluded: there is a huge difference, and HDTV is far better.

Forgive me but you sir are a total idiot.  Seriously.  You are so dumb that i am amazed that you can think let alone be able to post on a forum.  You are correct you don't NEED an HDTV to play a 360.  You are INCORRECT in saying there is no difference between SDTV and HDTV.  You may want to ask your mommy to take you to the Optometrist (Eye Doctor) and have your vision checked.

There is a HUGE difference between my SDTV and my friend's HD tv. Everything is way sharper and just looks better, so either your friend forgot to plug in the xbox as HD or you might need to consider going to the optician.

Quite possibly the dumbest thing I ahve ever read, stop trying to make yourself feel better for not owning an HDTV by saying that you can't tell the difference.  Here's some steps to take so you see a difference from SDTV to HDTV,,,,,,

- Go get glasses

-DOnt listen to your friend tell you his lcd is HD even though it isn't

-If it is HD make sure he set it to HD in the 360 options blade, make sure using component cables and those are set to HD aswell.

Are you sure you were using the correct cables? Cuz if you only use the standard A/V (Red, White, and Yellow) it wouldn't make a difference no matter what TV. I recently got and HDTV for xmas and I am running it at 720p, and there is an amazing difference. You can really tell between the two. I agree, just because you dont have and HDTv doesnt mean you shouldnt get a 360, but thats a far cry from saying that there is no difference, because if you are setting it up right, there is.

your right...dont get me wrong i think hdtv is cool and all but for the 360 it makes no difference..my hdtv actualy makes it look wierd...i prefer sdtv on the 360...i guess its because most hdtvs are wider than tall so it makes it look stretched out..but honestly you dont need to see EVERY little detail in a game..its just the marketing world brainwashing people to think hdtv makes a difference

Well if you have a 61" HDTV like i do, you can sit atleast 15 feet away and still see the difference. So yes HDTV is a nice bonus.

I agree that HDTV isn't everything and that people take it a bit too far to say that the graphics look 10x better, Which is not true.

when i play single player games on my HDTV downstairs it looks incredible that i cant even play multiplayer games because i will have to stop and look at the enviroment instead of my enemies. Perhaps however your friend didnt change the display setting on your 360 because it goes on 480p when you boot it up on a hd.

Simple Solution.

Play Dead Rising and read the text on your SDTV, then play it on an HDTV.

You're full of it dude. My 56 Samsung 1080p DLP is AWESOME :)

But we do have $299 to buy a 29' SD-TV with copecent cables which makes it BASICLY a HD-TV, just its really fat :( :(

I was pleasantly surprised by SDTV for 360. I play on an HDTV, so I thought seeing SDTV would be hard on the eyes. It wasn't bad at all. Of course, HDTV is better.

You are right in saying that 360 looks good on a SDTV and its definitly worth buying if you still don't have an HDTV. But you are VERY VERY wrong in saying there's not a big difference and there's nothing you can say that will make you right. Just ask people with eyes and a brain and they will tell you HD blows away SD.  Also why is it that so many people with SD have trouble reading words on dead rising and the in game score on Lost Planet, but with a HDTV it's easy to read? Also gaming in widescreen blows away 4:3 anyday.

I own a 23" Samsung HDTV before anyone tells me "You cant possibly own an HD if you think this!!!", and after reading posts from people saying how utterly amazing HD is I have to say I was somewhat disappointed when I first got it running (and yes ive set the 360 to 720p and have connected the component cables correctly etc). Dont get me wrong, there is an obvious difference in the clarity of such things as the HUD (where now i can read all text no matter how small it is) and the various icons are incredibly crisp, but the general gameplay graphics of games such as Oblivion, GoW and Quake 4 (for example) have changed VERY insignificantly. In fact, I've switched between SD and HD to try and squint for the differences but I find it very hard to find any. This frustrates me when I read the majority of reactions which are likE "OMFGZ THIS IS PWNAGE!!!?!" because I just dont understand it. Therefore I have to agree that it is overrated. [dont respond by telling me i've got something wrong in my setup because i havent]

Depends on what TV he was using. I tried out my 360 on a 50" Samsung and boy it was actually WORSE than my SDTV.

You're right in saying that not having an HDTV should not keep you from buying a 360, but the difference in clarity is pretty amazing, though not worth anything more than $2k in my opinion. I actually bought a 19" LCD pc monitor and I play at 1280 * 768, (which is essentially 720p and HD) for just under $200 and it looks great!MajorSport

which monitor is that because thats what im gonna do.

Technically, 720p is 3 times better and 1080p is 6.75 times better than standard definition.  That's the math and numbers don't lie.

yeah this guy has no clue what he is talking about. The colors are much brighter, images are clearer and text is much easier to read. Maybe your friend just has a bad TV but there is without a shadow of a doublt a difference between SDTV and HDTV. The only thing this guy has right is that you dont need an HDTV to play but it sure makes playing games a lot better.

[QUOTE="X360NowPS3Later"]If you haven't already gotten a 360, but really want one, just you can't decide if it's worth it if you don't have an ""HDTV""... HD is pointless and gimmicky, only to fool those with too much money and not enough brains.gamerking178

I secound that cos in NZ, well I don't have $10,000 for a HD-TV 52' with 1080p :( :( :( :( :(

But we do have $299 to buy a 29' SD-TV with copecent cables which makes it BASICLY a HD-TV, just its really fat :( :(

UHHH no using component cables on a sdtv doesnt make it even remotely the same picture quality wise as an hdtv. The people saying there is no difference need to see their eye care professional tomorrow. Just shocked people are saying these foolish things.

either you palyed the 360 with compaosite cables or you never turned the switch to HD on the component cables, because there was a pretty big difference.  sdtv is great if thats all you have, but HDTV is alot better.
