It's only fun if you are playing with a ton of friends that can't play the game at all, and you are drunk or something.
Failing easy songs with a bunch of idiots, is like the most fun you could have.
Playing alone on the other hand...

Yeha playing it with mates is by far the most fun to be had with it, and of course when your drunk :DI am, by far, a GH fanboy. I've been with the series since the first game on the PS2.
When Rockband was released, I thought it was going to blow GH out of the water. Playing drums was fun and all...but it just didnt have the challenge and appeal that GH3 had, with suchhits like Through the Fire and Flames and One.
Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour. This is the big one. Both games have full band support. Both games allow you to play online with your band.
GH in my opinion has WAY better instruments. The drums feel more real and have 5 notes in comparison to only 4 in Rockband 2. Also, expert+ (which is really only on Metallica and Smash Hits) makes it a drummers paradies!
Rock Band 2 poured most of their heart and soul into DLC. And while some of it is pretty good, most of it is just stupid and deff. not worth the money.
On a personal note, I never like Rock Bands graphical presentation. It just seemed too....bland. Like they were trying to hard to make the people look real. GH has a MUCH better graphical presentation to me. Some may not like the cartoony look, but they pulled of Metallica and Aerosmith.
So, yes, while I DO own both Rock Band 2 and multpile GH games, I have to say GH takes the cake for me in terms of graphics, soundtrack and just plain fun.
RockBand 2 is a good game with realistic performances and a ton of downloadable content.
Guitar Hero: World Tour is a trainwreck.
Therefore, I side with Rock Band.
I prefer Rock Band. GH's characters look like a bunch of ugly inbreds and I feel like the note highways are too far into the screen, if you know what I mean. RB also has better DLC.
I like Rock Band's presentation, and unforgivingness. In Guitar Hero, the timing window in which you have to hit notes is much larger. I hate that.
I don't know if these two games are fun or not, maybe ... But i hate GH and Rockband for blocking all the interesting stuff at the Add-On section in XBOX-Live. There are always dozens of songs in the category "latest", you always have to search for the gems cause the only dlc's you see are new songs for these games.
