So my cousin today told me that he has 3 red lights whenever he plays GTA IV on his xbox 360 and he thinks its because of his HDD because he plays like 15 mins and then the 3 red lights appear , he tried to play without the HDD and it worked amazingly fine with no problems so here are my questions.
1 - if you havnt played the xbox for nearly a week , does this cause damage to your HDD for not turning it on and leaving it off for long? [ i ask this because i have my 120 GB hidden under my desk for months...because i dont have the money to shell for a memory card , yes memories are expensive where i live ]
2 - does he have to clear the cache?
3 - is it his xbox or his HDD and is there anyway to fix this sort of problem?
Thank you for your time guys. :)XxSTILL_BORNxX
he's got three red lights, then call MS. there is nothing on a forum that is going to be a permanent fix.tgschmidt

If the xbox works fine without the HDD i think that must be the problem. And BTW if you call MS for red lights of death the first thing they will tell you is to remove the HDD.proview
You might have some luck asking on the GTAIV forums because I do remember some people reporting problems playing with their HDD when the game launched. I don't know if there was a fix found, as not experiencing it myself I didn't pay much attention to it, but someone in that forum may know the answer.
If it works without the HDD attached then you can play that way, but without a MU you won't be able to get very far and have to replay the same bits over and over, and of course would incur the extra cost of buying a MU
and it got me thinking , does not playing xbox 360 for that long damage maybe the HDD because you left it long for a long time , i know its dumb thinking but im worried because i stated in the questions side why im worried. i dont want my new 120 GB to die:(XxSTILL_BORNxX
First of all: one week is not long. And no, you won't damage your HD by NOT using it.

m8 i really can't be certain that nothing will happen, but don't thing not using the HDD is damaging it, on the other hand using it too much can be harmful. Anyway when i started using my xbox again after nearly a year it worked just fine.
