So i bought the new maps in HALO REACH today for 800mp. I hit download and then started up the game. I thought this might happen and was right about what i was thinking. Every game i enter i get to play the OLD MAPS, every game type i checked and still it keeps giving me OLD MAPS.

I know that the new maps are added to the game types but im yet to see one, and if i remember back to HALO 3; that game also used the old maps the majority of the time (i do remember there being a new lobby added for new maps then!!).

Am i missing something or is there a way to get into lobbies set up for the new maps, or do i just play until it throws up a new map.

*I hate nothing more than paying for content and not seeing any of it.

Actually they are forcing you to buy it. Remember how many ranked playlists required all the map packs in Halo 3? I'm sorry but he is somewhat right

I realize you don't HAVE to get them. But if you want to keep up, you have to. Like the guy below you said, a lot of the playlists DO require the downloaded maps. Even with games like COD, if some of your friends have them, and you don't, you either can't play with them, or they have to go without...At least COD just filtered it out if you didn't have them, too.

But Halo DOES tell you you need the map packs to play certain playlist, and those playlist tend to be the popular ones.

So I guess you didn't really think about that before you replied, and therefore, you now look like a complete tool. Run along...

The new maps don't take away playlists from people who don't have them like Halo 3 did, the only playlists you wont be able to play are the ones introduced with the new maps.

You don't think they're going to do that again? I'd suggest you rethink that...They will, for sure, do that again. It's the only way to get people to continuously buy map packs they don't wanna pay for.

Same bloody thing. It's BS. I'll stick to Battlefield with their VIP pack. We've already gotten 5-6 map packs, with more on the way, and we didn't have to pay an extra dime. At least their DLC (Vietnam) will be worth paying for.

Well then get ready to be shocked and pissed. They always charge too much for map packs, and they also screw you - one way or another - if you don't buy the maps. I don't support devs like that. Sorry.

Nope, he's for real. Also, yeah. Halo is probably gonna be doing the same thing they did with Halo 3. Meh, Reach was nothing great. I thought it was amazing... but then after playing it for a bit... Nothing much has changed... Still not a bad game, but... Could be better.

Well bungie said a long time ago on their site that they wont be doing that. People that dont have the map packs will be able to play in the normal playlist forever. They wont be cutting people off this time and ive havent seen Bungie lie before.

You didn't read everything, did you? We've already come to that conclusion. Instead of keeping you out of the playlist for not having the map packs, they'll just stop you from playing the special Noble gametypes. It's all the same thing though. Either way, they're trying to sway you to pay for maps you should already get for free.

Seriously, unless some devs are going to offer a significant amount of maps for $15, it's a rip off. 3-4 maps, with 1 usually being a remake, is not worth 25% percent of the retail price on top of the game...Let alone when they do 2-3-4 of these map packs. By the time you buy the game, and buy all the maps packs they've released, you've practically paid for the game twice.

Whatever, doesn't bother me. If I really liked Halo, I might be bummed. But since it's a game I don't really care for, I don't mind watching people waste their money...especially when they think it's a wise investment.

I bet if Halo decided to start charging a monthly fee, most of you would still play.

im still not seeing the problem. What special noble game types are there? As far i know they have the same game type as any other map. Is there any game you would buy a map pack for? I feel reach came with an average amount of maps and for the most part they are good. The new pack comes with 3 for 10 buks and they are all brand new maps from what i can tell no remakes. Dont forget that there will be a price drop down the line if you really feel like waiting it out. It may not be the best deal on live but you can def do worse. There's nothing Wrong with paying to get more of a game you like to play.

I dont see how people are wasting their money. If they buy it and enjoy it then its money well spent and its only $10. You could easily blow much more that by going to the movies or out to eat. Chances are good that you'll be play the new maps for a long time to come so its money well spent imo. If you want the map packs go buy them, if not then dont and you can still play your game in all the modes.

To me it sounds like you just dont like that game and theres nothing wrong with that i guess.

Dredg, why on earth would you not expect them to try to sway you to buy the DLC? They are a business after all.

And there are no exclusive game modes in Noble Pack to my knowledge.

And you pay XBL just to be able to play COD, Halo or whatever, so therefore you're fufilling your own bet.

Yeah, I had basically already stopped playing it. Then they announced the map pack, so my mindset was sort of "well if I wanna play Halo now, I'm gonna have to buy the map packs". Because with Halo 3, if you didn't have the map packs, you couldn't play certain playlist...so apparently now they aren't going to STOP you from playing certain playlists, but they ARE apparently going to make a seperate Noble playlist...Meaning 80+% of the community will be in that playlist. So either way, if some of your party has the maps, and some don't, you're not going to be able to play in the same playlists...Whereas with a game like COD 4 or MW2, if you didn't have the maps, they just didn't come up in the rotation...

Basically, if you're going to play a lot of a certain game online, you want all the up-to-date content, and I'm just not willing to keep up with Halo and all their map packs. At least COD only releases one or two...I know I'm not going to have to buy 4 map packs to keep it up to date...

Get me?

The new maps don't take away playlists from people who don't have them like Halo 3 did, the only playlists you wont be able to play are the ones introduced with the new maps.

lol how is making a new playlist, exclusive for Noble map pack owners any different than locking out those you don't have the maps packs from the standard playlists?

It's the same thing, just done in the opposite manner.

Either way, Bungie always has a way of making their DLC a standard as opposed to an optional add-on, and this won't be any different.

Agreed.

That was before people just blindly agreed to pay for map packs that should be free...

There's a simple solution here...We have a lot of power as the gaming community, and if we - as a whole - decide to boycott premium DLC, they'd simply stop charging for it, or they'd release all the content in the retail version and be done with it.

The only reason why we're being milked dry by DLC is because we've come to accept it.

Nowadays, it's like devs know they can release an incomplete product and just release the remaining content as "DLC" later on. It's a load of crap...

Basically, if you're going to play a lot of a certain game online, you want all the up-to-date content, and I'm just not willing to keep up with Halo and all their map packs. At least COD only releases one or two...I know I'm not going to have to buy 4 map packs to keep it up to date...

Get me?

making up figures to support your argument, fantastic. do you know that 95% of people think that 83% of what you wrote was 87% silly?

Why would that make you sell it? Or were you just bored with it in general?

If you're patient the map packs will always be in heavy rotation in a day or two after release, as more people will have it and like another poster said, there is a playlist for it

chaoscougar1

Yeah, I had basically already stopped playing it. Then they announced the map pack, so my mindset was sort of "well if I wanna play Halo now, I'm gonna have to buy the map packs". It was just an estimate...And for an estimate, I'd say it's probably pretty close. I'd have to guess that approx 80% of the Halo community DOES buy the maps pack...that's 4 out of 5 Halo players. It seems like pretty much EVERYONE gets the map packs, and very few don't. So if anything, my estimate was probably on the low side. It's probably closer to 90% really...

Glad you had a chance to try and be witty though. Thanks for your 2 cents...

lol so you just increase the figure based on no knowledge of the community or playlists? Ok granted, it will probably be high IN THE FIRST WEEK, but people will soon get tired of the new maps and go back to the old playlists. But really, does it matter? i dont think anyone will have any troubles finding a game without the DLC. How can you say your estimate is pretty close? what are you basing that on? i shall repeat, you are making up figures to support your argument, nonsensical

He even said earlier that he sold his copy before the DLC came out. Did not do the research indeed.

It doesn't really matter, at all. You guys are the ones who are asking questions like "Why would you get rid of the game?" I gave the reasons I did. And even if it wasn't for those reasons, I was never a big Halo fan. I picked up Halo 3 to see how it would be, wasn't impressed, traded and moved on. Did the same with Reach after playing it for a week...that's all there really is to it. I didn't wanna keep the game because I didn't wanna bother with the rat race that is Halo DLC.

Based on what happened with Halo 3 - that being not being able to play certain playlists because of DLC - I decided I wouldn't bother with Halo Reach. Then some people mentioned the fact that they won't go the same route as Halo 3, but will instead have a seperate "Noble pack" playlist. You following so far? Good...My point is, most Halo players online WILL get these map packs. What am I basing that on? Precedent. That's what. Everyone I know who had Halo 3 had all the map packs, and anyone I know with Reach is planning on buying them now...Easily 4 out of 5 people.

If you really think less than 80% of the Halo 3 community had the map packs, you're wrong. Plain and simple. Take a poll on this forum, ask if people had the Halo 3 DLC and/or if they plan on getting the Noble map pack. I can guarantee you at least 80% of the community will say "yes". If you really, honestly think these numbers are so far fetched, I don't know what else to say to make you understand.

If the numbers COULD be found of Halo players who purchase the DLC, I guarantee it's 80% or higher. But to be fair, it's likely that those responding to the poll would have bought said DLC anyways...

Chaos seems to be setting you guys straight here but I'll throw this in for the heck of it

1) They made the map pack cheaper than for COD MW2 so you all should be happy about that. After how ridiculous the dlc numbers were for that game the gaming community was afraid all dlc for high profile games would increase in price

2) Just because there is ONE new playlist you all think that everyone will be in it now? How? Why? And 90% is just crazy. The new playlist doesn't even include all the game types

Quoted for truth. Bungie fixed that problem and still fans aren't satisfied? Wow.

Gundamforce

lol how is making a new playlist, exclusive for Noble map pack owners any different than locking out those you don't have the maps packs from the standard playlists?

It's the same thing, just done in the opposite manner.

Either way, Bungie always has a way of making their DLC a standard as opposed to an optional add-on, and this won't be any different.

It's locked for obvious reasons. Man some people.

No. You thought it would be the same as Halo 3, but it turns out it's not; you were flat out wrong, and now you're pretending you still have an argument. They're not locking you out of playlists like they did in Halo 3, you assumed too much prematurely, get over it.

I have similar feelings about the new map pack. So I made this satiric video about it (warning: contains real life teabagging):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgC3mWWd2FE

Don't get me wrong, I'm still gonna buy the map pack, but I thought it was time that we talked about the language we as gamers use (and yes, the ridiculous DLC pricing structure). Let me know what you think.

Bungie stated that they've improved their matchmaking algorithms to accomodate for those who do or do not own the maps. which obviously wasn't the case for Halo 3 with playlist lockouts.

rather than jump the gun, let's see if it plays out the way Bungie was originally aiming for. I tend to believe with faster matchmaking, they've been able to improve on other things as well. so it wouldn't be a real surprise.

someone's going to be eating their words, regardless.

I disagree with forcing people to buy DLC to play online but its not the case with Reach.

I loved the way MS did DLC with Halo2. they first charged for it, then made it avaliable on a disc, then eventually it was free

You know how much the developers of a game care about their playerbase when they release extra, priced DLC (let's remember it costs roughly 1/6th of the full game's price) on the same quarter of the same year that the full game was released*.

*This is sarcasm.

I gotta agree with this. I assume that you are sarcastically saying they do care simply about numbers, correct me if I am wrong.

I never even thought about it from that perspective. This game really hasn't been out that long. I don't know if its a good or bad thing that they are releasing new DLC this quickly. It really makes me believe they are trying to bring some players back who have left for other games. It also makes me thing that they've had these maps for a long time, which means that (as many have said) they should have shipped with the game.

dude the noble playlist doesn't have new game types or anything. It's the same game types except every game is played on a new map. The noble playlist will probably go away after a month or so when more people have gotten the maps. The call of duty games do the exact same thing. When a new map pack came out, infinity ward would make a separate playlist for people who only wanted to play the new maps, and once more people got the new maps, they took off the map pack playlists and just put the new maps into the regular rotation. Reach isn't doing anything different than what's normally done when new maps come out for a game. I really don't see what you're complaining about.

The new maps don't take away playlists from people who don't have them like Halo 3 did, the only playlists you wont be able to play are the ones introduced with the new maps.

Ingenemployee
That is good to know. That made me really mad with halo3. I don't see how they could get away with taking things out of a game you paid good money for.
