Ok so i've tried every trick in the book to get this damn thing to work.

Every match i enter results in the same thing: I play for about 30 seconds, then i get booted from the game with the message "server connection timed out." I know for a fact that the problems I am having are not Xbox Live's fault, because none of my friends have this problem. I am running on a wired connection with a fixed IP addres through a router: that doesnt work. I hook up directly to the modem: that doesnt work. I try a wireless connection: that doesnt work. What else is there to do??

Please help!

Have you tried opening the NAT ports in your modem?

Well you said that it happens on Wireless aswell so I don't think it will be your Ethernet Cable, is anything using the Internet at the same time as the 360?

you might have to change your modem... something similar happened to me a few years ago and then it was fine after my ISP replaced it...

it doesn't affect xbox live alone, but your internet altogether (if it's the same problem I had) it's not noticeable when you're constantly browsing. It is, however, noticeable when you are signed onto a messeging service such as Aim or MSN etc. Because it will log you off on its own about the same time you see that "server timed out" messege.
