I was recently reading an article about Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, and it sounds amazing! I am a huge GRAW fan and love tactical, realistic shooters that require planning and teamwork rather than reflexes. There has been a shortage of these games for the 360 for quite a while now, so I'm surprised that there isn't more buzz surrounding this title. Hell, I didn't even know it was coming out for consoles until this week. Judging from the size of the community in GRAW and GRAW 2, I just can't believe there hasn't been more anticipation for this game. Am I missing something, some massive downside that everyone else knows about? Is anyone else excited about this game and picking it up on the 6th?

I've been following the new OF since May-June :P. The E3 demo looked awful, but they really bounced back and the game looks great now. I'm very excited for this game

Heres some gameplay for people who want to see:

it'd be getting a lot more hype if the arcade FPS COD:MW2 wasn't coming out soon

Well all the other games cover it up. I don't expect this game to sell really well. I can't wait to play it but most people are more in tune with MW2 or ODST or other more popular games.

It's odd, though, because I would have expected it to be hyped MORE because of those other games because it offers an alternative to people like me (and I assume you) who are fed up with games that require no mental effort or thought. I can't stand the idea of another arcadey, over-the-top online shooter filled with cheaters and kids who have the reflexes of a god because they play all day, and I know there are a lot of other people out there who feel the same. Seems like the game would do better if they were marketing it a little harder as a military sim game rather than your run-of-the-mill CoD/Halo clone.

I think that more hardcore gamers will buy this game. I don't think your average game player will bother to pick this up. That's why you don't see the hype. Tactical shooters aren't popular with most people, as they just like run and gun stuff. This is more of a "hardcore" gamer's game, so you won't see as much hype, but believe me it's there

Well I, for one, can't wait for the 6th. Hopefully there will be plenty of people picking it up and the online community will fill out nicely...and hopefully the servers work right because a botched launch on a game like this (i.e. a game without a huge number of people buying it at launch) could be fatal.

I'm looking forward to this, but I'm waiting for a few decent reviews before I decide to pick it up.

The release date is sandwiched between two of the biggest shooters to come out this year for the Xbox 360, so I wouldn't expect it to sell that well at all.

Game Informer has a preview of the new OFP for Xbox 360 in the Oct. '09 issue. They basically said it's mediocre and looks like trash (nothing like the PC version or touched up screens).

Exactly.

I wouldn't say its the more 'hardcore' gamers who like them, its just a matter of taste. Just like I wouldn't say that only hardcore gamers like racing sims.

Personally, I'm just not a fan. I appreciate them, but its just not fun for me.

i have been waiting for this game for over 2 years, and after delay and delay my optimism towards it has dwindled. Recently they announced that no demo would arrive prior release and i just said **** it! I doubt you will see this game this year. The lack of publicity is either stupidity on the part of Codemasters or a clear sign that the game is not finished :(

Yeah, I read about that. It worries me a bit and that's why I'm waiting for some more reviews before I decide to buy it or not.

Really? I don't care if it doesn't break down graphical barriers as long as it plays well and looks at least decent. Then again, I long ago stopped putting my stock in GI reviews because they always favor the hyped up, mainstream games while other great titles get one a one paragraph review and a seven score. So we'll see I guess. I will still be buying it.

It comes out in like two weeks...a delay that late in a game's development cycle is almost unheard of. They are probably finishing up the last few things and sending it off for mass production within the next couple of days.
