E3 2009 was dominated by sequels, the only new / original full game announced for the 360 was Alan Wake and Metal Gear Solid: Rising (I'll treat it as new seeing as how it's the series first time on the 360) as far as I know. Now, I do like the look of some of these games, particularly Forza 3 and Modern Warfare 2... But was anybody else sort've disappointed by the lack of new games?

Of course. While I'm thrilled to see news of Modern Warfare 2 and Mass Effect 2, I'm disappointed their aren't really any new IPs coming out. Dead Space was by far the best new IP last year and it was refreshing being able to dive into something I hadn't played before.

Yeah =]

I appreciate all the new things such as the Facebook on Xbox as well as Project Natal but to be honest when Natal comes out I reckon it's going to be expensive as hell. Sure it'll be fun but it's not really the same as a new original game which would cost the normal amount a game should.

I think this gen has already seen a fair amount of new IPs as it is, I can't complain. Both are good and I'm sure well see more. Aside from Alan Wake though there was Shadow Complex and Joy Ride.

I saw Shadow Complex and Joy Ride but I was generally talking about non-downloadable games. I generally don't buy things on Live, although they did say that Joy Ride was free. Shadow Complex actually does look rather nice.

I'm very disappointed at the lack of quality original games these days. Hopefully Alan Wake and Earth No More will change that. Oh, and Heavy Rain.

I'd love to argue, but you're right. The only way they can create good excitement is if you hype them up a lot. And they can't do that with every new game in case it falls flat on it's face. PS3's new game infamous got a fair bit of excitement I think.

And it was worth the hype. But I disagree with you guys. A great new concept can ring up a lot of hype if the idea is a good one. Look at inFAMOUS.

Really to me the only way a new game gets any info is if they are made by a well known company like Psychonauts which is an amazing game but got little advertisement due to having an unkown in publishing. Games like Army of Two and Kane and Lynch got heavy advertisement but turned out to be a little dissapointing so really it depends on who is making the games and how much money they can spare on ads.

The industry is built on sequels. The irony is that for every "new" game you are excited about that may end up a success, you'll be seeing a sequel number slapped at the end of that title in a couple of years.

To me there are some games that dont need sequals (bioshock,Ninja Gaiden, DOA: volleyball) however some do really its just because the company know has stable ground and doesnt have to worry about something new that might not be good. Sequals also usually make more money that originals simply because they already have a huge fanbase

Good examples of this are Halo and Gears of War.

i agree. People are more cautious about jumping into a new series rather than something they already know they like.

The Only Real Problems i have always had with sequals is that they go on for no reason and are not always connected. Two companies that are good for that is Square Enix and Nintendo. Nintendo has the same things they had 10 years ago and people still buy then Mario,Super Smash Bros,Zelda,and pokemon and if they dont talk about even one it goes into a frenzy at E3. Square Enix is big for things like this Look at Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, and Dragon Quest both started in the early 90's and have still been going with little connectivity between the games and people still buy them really i think square enix should just give up because the same fans they had 15 years ago arnt gonna want to play these games in another 15-20 years

I could care less.. If I hate sequels I can not buy them. Plus I actually like sequels as long as the stories are connected. Personally I want a bit of both you can look forward to a sequel that will more than likely interest you if you liked the original and look forward to new games that could interest you.
