Yeah, some people have been talking about how unique of a game it is, when all it really is is based on an extreme sport with several tweaks.
So gamers, if you don't know what parkour is and you are planning to get this game, look it up and educate yourself!

I knew it was based on parkour, but I don't see how it makes the game less unique...

Same here, I'm pretty sure everyone who has used the internet in the last 2 years knows what Parkour is.

The developers were open about the game involving Parkour, I don't think they were trying to hoodwink us into thinking they created Parkour.
If they are ripping off anyone it is Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure (for the storyline).

i think you should educate yourself first, cause parkour is not and will never be extreme nor a sport.....its running around and jumping, thats it

I second this statement, despite how much I do not like Marc Ecko (biggest graffiti groupie on the planet).
But, the stories are quite similar.
To be honest, it's the main reason why I'm so interested in Mirror's Edge.

And, actually, there's more to Parkour and/or Free-Running than you think.
There's a lot of conditioning.
listen ' not saying you don't need to be in good shape to move like that, god knows i cant scale a wall in 2 steps. and I'm not knocking mirrors edge in any way, iv been loving this game since the first time i saw it and the demo is blowing my mind on how good it looks. but parkor really isn't much, i mean its not even in the category of underground, its for a few people and that's it. its not a sport. its not something that everyone can do after watching a video of it, and if it wasn't for mirrors edge we wouldn't be talking about it right at all.
and scianiy black, mark ecko its a graffiti group, what ever that is. before he started a skater clothing company (thanks what it first was), he was a graffiti artist tagging around north nj. so everything hes pretty much done since then has had graffiti in mind, from making one of the only graffiti games i can think of to selling shoes with a custom look to em with sketches on em. so i don't know why you don't like him
I think David Belle (i think thats his name) started Parkour. I have seen alot of his videos and hes a beast. Regardless if the game is based off of Parkour I fail to see your argument. Are you saying the devs are less inovative? Turning something like Parkour into a video game isn't an easy task especially in the first person perspective. KnifeGun
ya i think i heard that david belle started parkour somewhere too. guess it must have some truth then. and once again I'm not saying anything bad about the game, and i watched the video from the developers talking about how they had to research how to make the game and not get people motion sick, it was pretty interesting how they had to make the view wide-screen and render more stuff on screen at any time. so that's not easy in any way.
the argument is pretty much parkour was called an "extreme sport" back up top. and im saying that its not extreme nor a sport

Well, depends on your definition of a sport, I would consider it a sport if there is a scope for competition and if it involves physical attributes and skill. Maybe not an OFFICIAL sport but still

Yes, I know this.
I don't like him because I'm a writer myself, and it's kinda stupid how much of a graffiti groupie he is.
He says he writes, but he really doesn't.
I respect him as an entrepreneur, but definitely not as a graffiti artist, because that's not what he is.
well the two things you can really play doing parkour is tag or follow the leader... both are not sports, simple factscthecoffee
sport
-noun
1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature
extreme
–adjective
1. of a character or kind farthest removed from the ordinary or average: extreme measures.
2. utmost or exceedingly great in degreedictionary
Does parkour require skill or physical prowess? Yes.
Is it ordinary or average? No.
Therefore is it extreme and a sport, making it an extreme sport? Yes.
Of course this is just semantics, but you're telling me to educate myself? I know a lot more about it than you'd know. And it is something you can pick up if you start going to gyms, there are plenty of parkour online communities.

Dude...have some respect for Parkour, not calling it a sport just cause its not as popular or as boring as football. I rather pay to watch a bunch of peeps hit vaults and flips nasty then some over payed weak defense get played around like a fool. Not a sport? please dude. Can you even do a vault?
Of course, if you ever acknowledged it as a sport it would be useless to us since you would probably never try it. Enjoy the game. "Watch" your whole life...

You are correct there. Are you a Traceur yourself then?
Note: For those who do not know, Traceur is the name for someone who practices Parkour/Freerunning. Please follow the link in my profile to my personal blog for more details and other stuff. I am on YouTube! ;)
parkor really isn't much
cthecoffee
Wrong. It may not appeal to you, but I will get to that later.
its not something that everyone can do after watching a video of it
cthecoffee
Wrong again. If you mean "do" as in instantaniously go out and be an expert then you are correct, however everyone starts out at the bottom don't they. I believe anyone could pick it up if they put effort into their training like I did. Most of your posts on this topic so far have been arrogant, uneducated, and narrow minded. You are wrong in saying it isn't a sport too, but somebody else has already pointed this out to you. For most serious Traceurs a lot of mental and physical training takes place, so maybe you should take up the SPORT as you could do with some mental training. You never know, it may just stop you being so much of a dickwad.

I'm actually not a Traceur myself, but I know a couple of b-boys who are.
I'll stick to the spraycan; Traceurs do crazy stuff that I can barely dream of lol.

Well footballers play "keep-up" or whatever you like to call it, where they try and keep the ball off the ground. This is also not a sport, therefore your point is now void.
Edit: Whatever "games" we play, it is to give ourselves a challenge so we can improve upon our previous achievements.
